Hare Cottage is beautiful, so much so we booked to return before we left. Great location, great surroundings. Lovely cottage, all perfect and a very nice BaraBrith left for us.
Hare Cottage is absolutely beautiful! The cottage is perfectly situated with stunning views and everything is immaculate. We loved mornings and evenings on the patios and waking up looking over rolling fields. We visited with our almost 2 year old and dog and they loved it! Cannot recommend enough!
The best air b and b we have stayed in with lovely hosts who were incredibly helpful. Spotless and in an idyllic setting. Highly recommended.
A memorable trip away with our two doggies and baby boy, before I go back to work from maternity leave. Enjoyed the recommended short and medium walks, and Powis Castle was a stunning day out. The cottage interiors are beautiful as well as being superbly practical, and the surroundings are gorgeous and so peaceful. We also enjoyed some much needed rest, and quality time with our little boy overlooking the views. Thank you Steve for your hospitality, and such kindness in our last days when my boys were poorly 😊 We’ll be back. Judith, Stewart, Philip, Willow and Bramble xxxxx
Llanfair Caereinion 6 miles; Llanfyllin 6 miles; Welshpool 9 miles; Lake Vyrnwy 11 miles; Oswestry 14 miles; Shrewsbury 27 miles.
Meifod is a small village by the River Vyrnwy with a local pub and convenience store with a post office, enveloped by rolling hills and woodland, with attractive houses.
Situated about 9 miles north-west of Welshpool, this pretty village also offers tennis courts (day tickets can be purchased cheaply from the village shop), its own Rugby and Football teams and a historic church where there is said to be the royal tombs of 2 former princes of Powys.
Fishing permits for the River Vyrnwy and Banwy can be purchased from the village shop.
Lake Vyrnwy with its RSPB reserve and Pistyll Rhaeader (Llanrhader waterfall) a 240ft waterfall in 3 stages, which is counted as one of the Seven Wonders of Wales, are only a short drive away. Both are sites of scientific interest.
Nearby, Llanfair Caereinion is in the heart of old Montgomeryshire's Banwy valley and is one of the smallest towns in Powys. Just a short walk over the Banwy Bridge from the hilly streets of the town centre, is the steam Welshpool to Llanfair Light Railway.
Welshpool is a bustling market town, nestled in the Severn Valley 4 miles from the border between Wales and England. There is a lovely blend of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a restored cock fighting pit and interesting Heritage Trail.
Visit the famous 13th Century Powis castle, or enjoy a cruise along the Montgomery canal. There is much to be enjoyed of an afternoon here.
A gentle stroll through the town will have you taking in the Georgian architecture, there is even a golf club with a top of the world situation, overlooking the picturesque Welsh borderlands - a perfect location to practice your swing!
Further afield is country town of Shrewsbury, with its half-timbered Tudor buildings, museums and lovely shopping experiences. An opportunity not to be missed!
