The sign entering Van Buren County on Highway 16 reads, "Slow down. Relax. You're in Van Buren County now." I always breathe a sigh of relief when I cross the border into our quaint, little county, where life seems to slow down and there is time and space to breathe. You'll enjoy stepping back in time a bit staying in this historic farmhouse, built in 1900. It sits on 3 acres and is surrounded by charming out-buildings. See the photos and the below information for a more in depth description. This bright and sunny room (with black out curtains) has a garden theme inspired by my Aunt Allene, an avid gardener, cook, and all-around amazing hostess. Features in this room include a comfy, new mattress on an antique, full-sized four poster bed that has been in my family for three generations. The outside wall is a large bay window overlooking the barn. Other furniture includes a reading chair and dresser, and there is room to add a twin-sized bed OR a full sized air mattress (not both). The woodwork, hardwood floors and transom window are all original to the home. We like to keep the rooms simple and restful, and don’t have televisions in the room. However, we have an internet enabled tv available we are happy to bring to the room upon request, no problem! Enjoy the newly renovated bathroom w/ heated tiled floors and a rain shower (across the hall, but private for this room). There is a shared hospitality room on the 1st floor with a mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker & toaster, with coffee, water & packaged breakfast items/snacks. There is also a shared reading nook on the second floor landing. Relax on the front porch swing or around the fire pit in the little "village" out back (there are a few cute out-buildings). Take a walk around the 3 acre property, which features a barn built in 1898, as well as the old foundation right next to it. This is an historic area and Sunrise Inn & Retreat is within 20 minutes of many attractions: Beautiful natural settings like Lacey Keosauqua State Park and Lake Sugema; historic properties like Pearson House (a home on the Underground Railroad) and the American Gothic house; unique shopping at places like Dutchman's Old Time General Store, the little shops in Bentonsport, and the unique town of Fairfield; activities such as horseback riding and geocaching; and creative endeavors through the Villages Folk School. Then refresh with delicious food at one of numerous restaurants, topped off with cheese samples from Milton Creamery and a treat from Misty's Malt Shop. These are some of our favorites, but there is so much more. Learn more at our local website- just search for the Villages of Van Buren (I'm not allowed to include a link)! We are excited to share our home and community with you!
Michelle’s place fit our need perfectly. She greeted us upon arrival, inquiring if there was anything we needed. Peaceful country setting, would love to stay there again!
We are on 3 acres in the country on highway 1, about 6 miles south of Birmingham and 6 miles north of Keosauqua.
自我介绍
My husband, Jerald & I (Michelle) moved here a couple years ago from MN to fulfill a few dreams: 1) To have an historic "victorian farmhouse" with a big porch, 2) To be in the country (we have 3.27 acres w/barn), & 3) To have some kind of a B&B or retreat type of space for people to get away & feel pampered. Thus, Sunrise Inn & Retreat was born. I absolutely love our little area of the world & can't wait to share it with you!
