Sedgefield dates back to the 13th century, and is believed to exist as a Roman settlement. The 2-mile heritage trail nearby provides a wealth of history. With some good pubs and restaurants close by, the properties are in an ideal location for exploring the many visitor attractions in north Yorkshire, which is just half an hour away. Alnwick, with its famous castle used in the Harry Potter films, the Heritage Coast, peppered with castles and golden beaches, and York with its beautiful minster, can all be reached within an hour. Renowned as one of the finest historical and cultural cities in the UK, the city of Durham has a magnificent cathedral, castle and World Heritage Site, along with an array of medieval architecture, winding cobbled streets, unique shops, pubs and restaurants. If it’s fresh country air and wonderful walks you’re looking for, Sedgefield nestles between the Yorkshire Dales, County Durham and the North York Moors, where you will find some of the most dramatic countryside, including High Force waterfall, stunning coastal walks and the Castle Eden Walkway. Sedgefield races are a regular feature on the local calendar, and take place all year round. For keen golfers, visit the Knotty Hill Golf Centre, which is just one of many golf courses in the area. Great property, loads of space - lads love the pool table
We had a lovely stay at Durham House, the property is very spacious and was clean and tidy on arrival. The bar area is a nice touch as we’re things like books and games and the outside space is nice and big with plenty of parking. However, some of the beds were quite uncomfortable, and although we were told towels weren’t provided (but hire was available) we didn’t realise this extended to hand towels, tea towels and bath mats. There was also no hand soap in any of the toilets and no basic things in the kitchen such as salt/pepper which would have been useful to know in advance. I also had to message the host a couple of times to find out how we accessed the property, and only got this info an hour before we were due to arrive. Great place in a great location but unfortunately let down by poor communication.
A wonderful location for a family reunion. The rooms were perfect for a mixed group including young children, plenty of space to relax and a bar in the front room capped off the evening. Plenty of space to park and a safe picnic area for the kids to play. Sedgefield is a lovely village , minutes from the motorway but very peaceful with some very family friendly restaurants and supermarkets within 5 mins walk. We will be back.
Really great place to stay with a big group. Well set up. The owner will put beer on tap if you preorder, we only found this out when we arrived though. Would stay again.
Good layout - ideal for our group of 3 families with grown up kids. Great location for dog walks and nice to have the outside area in the sunshine. Good facilities - well equipped kitchen, great dining area and lounge, table football and pool table. We were not aware that we would have to buy soap and toilet roll and basics like salt and pepper but there’s a co-op just up the road. Overall a very enjoyable stay.
