Anstruther is an interesting area to explore, an old fishing and historic town with red pantile roofs, ancient buildings, cobbled streets with little alleyways and working fishing harbour. There are two sandy beaches for paddling, perfect for exploring the rock pools when the tide goes out and all within walking distance from Pee Wee Cottage. There is a great choice of places to eat, from the Michelin star Cellar restaurant, to award-winning fish and chip shops, restaurants, cafés, ice cream parlour and bars. There are local gift shops, boutique and galleries to visit. In the summer months, from the harbour, boat trips to the Isle of May are available to the world-renowned bird sanctuary and nature reserve, famous for puffins, grey seals and other wildlife in the summer months. Walk along the Fife coastal path, which passes through the town, to pretty fishing villages and many beautiful beaches and coves. The area is well known for golf courses; Anstruther has a challenging 9-hole course along the shore and many other links courses in the surrounding areas. St. Andrews is a mere 10 minute drive with championship and family friendly courses to play.
