苏格兰边界 · 整套乡村小屋 · 2室4床1.0卫 · 可住6人 · Cosy spacious cottage, log fires, enclosed garden.
We're sure you'll love this very spacious delightful homely cottage with log burning fires and amazing pub-restaurant just a walk up the street. Set in a lovely rural village setting in the beautiful Scottish Borders near Berwick-on-Tweed on the East Coast Mainline. With a lovely enclosed garden to relax in, river walks right next to the village and an award-winning pub on your doorstep - you'll have everything you could wish for for a holiday in Scotland. Purves Cottage is a prominent and historic yet homely and cosy building, formerly a Tailor's business, one of many in the village back in the early 1900's, which has now been lovingly converted to a delightful spacious holiday cottage. It is in perfect location for walks or fishing on the Whiteadder and Blackadder rivers at Allanton (just 100m from the cottage) and nearby on the Tweed in various locations throughout the borders. Clean, friendly dogs and well-behaved kids most welcome ;-) Please note Allanton is in a rural area and August is the main harvest month here for farmers rushing to get the crops in dodging the rain, so farm traffic can be going through the village at all hours during this time. HEATING: The house has central heating throughout and a store of coal & logs is provided for the fires ready for the colder months. BEDS: There are 3-4 beds available. 2 bedrooms; one upstairs and one downstairs. The bedroom downstairs has a king size bed and a single bed. Drawers and wardrobe storage are provided in this room also. The upstairs bedroom has a double bed, single bed and walk in closet storage, with skylight roof window to the rear looking out over gardens and the fields beyond. BATHROOM: is located on the ground floor and has a stand-alone walk in shower with rain head. Plus a roll top bath for relaxing in. Stylish double sink unit and toilet. UTILITIES: There is a dishwasher,a washing machine in the utility room along with iron and ironing board. There is no tumble dryer. OTHER: We have provided a selection of items should it be a rainy day and you want to chill inside. Books, board games, cards and a selection of DVDs are available. GARDEN: There is a separate fully enclosed garden out to the rear which is accessed across the parking area looking out over the field with basic BBQ facilities, table and chairs and a whirligig washing line should you need it. There is a log store here too, and a selection of outdoor games. There is a water hose fitted outside if you want to wash dogs from a muddy walk! NEARBY: In the village itself is The Allanton Inn pub & hotel, an award-winning establishment with rooms and dining. Ordinarily they have a number of events each year including a summer Beer Festival and Garden Party (June). And being just 100m up the street it's not far to stumble home after a tipple or two. William & Katrina serve real ales changed weekly, over 40 gins, a great selection of wines and fabulous food. They have a beer garden to the rear and dogs are welcome there too. On sunny days you can dine alfresco in the pretty garden looking out over the fields towards the coast. There is play-park further up the village for young children, and you have access to some of the most beautiful countryside and riverside walks. The cottage is perfectly located to enjoy an abundance of sights, places to visit, attractions and activities for all tastes including amazing walks, beaches, golf, fishing, shooting, cycle routes and surfing. St Abbs and Coldingham on the coast a few miles away are excellent for surfing, sea-kayaking and diving. There are a number of historic houses and castles nearby such as Manderston, Thirlestaine, Mellerstain and Floors Castle all a short drive away throughout the Borders. Alnwick Castle & Gardens (Harry Potter fame!) is a short drive down the A1, as is Bamburgh Castle on the fantastic Northumberland coast. You can take a drive down the coast through a number of pretty coastal villages and towns. Holy Island or Lindisfarne (featured in TV series Vikings and The Last Kingom) is a real treat to visit with lovely local shops selling gifts, art and ice-cream, Lindisfarne Castle and beautiful historic Priory to walk around. Holy Island is cut off twice-daily from the rest of the world by fast-moving tides which cover over the causeway road to and from the island - so be sure to check the crossing times or you'll be stranded!
Fantastic place, steeped in history and decorated so tastefully. Brilliantly equipped with everything you need and Sally provided a beautiful welcome basket on arrival. Communication was excellent and when we had difficulty with the cooker she popped round straight away. Highly recommended.
Had a lovely stay at this property. The house was immaculate and in a great location. Kitchen has everything you need. Bathroom is amazing. The garden was great for the dogs and although not attached to the property was easily accessible with direct access to the fields at the back. Overall a brilliant property.
What an absolute gem of a find. The cottage was absolutely superb, very clean and cozy. The fire and huge sofa were perfect after a full day of walking with the dog. I even messaged Sally to ask a question and she popped round to sort everything out for us, fantastic hosts :-) We had a fantastic stay and would 100% recommend this to anyone.
Loved our stay at the cottage. Arrived on a cold night to a toasty warm house with a lovely welcome basket. The cottage has everything you'll need and is extremely comfortable. Some lovely local walks nearby just out the door and the excellent Allanton Inn 100 yards away is a must visit for a meal. Our dog loved the garden at the rear as well which I'm sure would be used even more in the warmer months. Overall, an excellent base if you're exploring the borders but also a lovely place to stay if you just want to relax and chillout. Highly recommended.
Gorgeous cottage, everything you could possibly need, especially with a young child, high chairs, cot, stair gate even plastic plates etc. The space inside and out was truly fab, bath, bed and sofa to die for! And perfectly clean. The Allanton Inn was equally brilliant, great beer, service and amazing food! Sally and Ian were really great and easy to communicate with, everything felt very stress free and laid back. Thank you so much for letting us stay. We’d love to come back one day.
Chirnside is a mile away and has a small but well stocked co-op for provisions. It also has a butchers, newsagent, post-office and a chip shop.
There are a few buses to the village each day, but not many. They run to Duns and to Berwick where the main east-coast train line is.
There are a number of taxi firms that service Allanton, you need to ring and book though, there is no taxi rank in the village. We have provided you with a list of local firms in the guidebook in the cottage.
