The Lodge a dream. You can really calm down and enjoy nature. The food they are cooking is nice but pretty expensive. We brought a lot of food with us and cooked for ourself. If you want to do activities, inform yourself before and be aware of aditional costs. Electricity was recently installed, so charging your stuff is no problem. Would defintely recommend to stay here some days, it is an unforgettable experience and we are very thankful for that.

Lodge I booked three days and left after the first night. The lodge itself was nice - with a nice forest view, that’s true. The problem I had included the following: 1. There was no electricity in that lodge. It’s not a problem if I had been warned for that at the beginning. After I left, from the translation of the Spanish description of the lodge, I found the last sentence ‘no power pack’. Then I guess the meaning is the lodge has no electricity. If I had known that, I would have brought extra portable batteries to survive the three nights. I didn’t even have a book to read as my books are all in my phone or computer. The host should have warned me about that in the communication. 2. No phone signal/internet at all once you reach the lodge - I couldn’t call the owner for help or find a mountain guide etc. The lady whom they sent spoke only Spanish and the translation app couldn’t help as she wasn’t really aim to help you. She was only a cook during the stay. Also if I had known that in advance, I would have informed my family I was out of reach for four days. Even when I reached the nearest town, the phone connection was still bad, basically you can’t seek help once you have reached the area of the lodge. 3. The hidden costs are really expensive and they didn’t list them on their descriptions. Eg. Breakfast, lunch and dinner each cost 75 Bolivianos (around 12 USD). If I had known this in advance, I might have carried some food to cook myself. But the lady wasn’t happy when I said I didn’t need breakfast as 12 usd for a breakfast is quite expensive for me for three days. It’s impossible not to use their meal service as it’s in the middle of nowhere. It’s not a village. There are no houses at all within 20 miles of the house. The lodge was the only one, there was not a series of lodges as I had imagined before. 4. The host didn’t help in suggesting what I could do in such a remote place. Eg. I asked for a guide before I checked in. The host said she could arrange a person to walk with me. But when I arrived, the lady/cook didn’t know about that and kept saying she could find the repairman/driver (I really didn’t know who that was, because that person didn’t appear on the first morning at all) to guide me. The host knew I was the only female guest and the aim of this host was to rent a house, nothing more. There’s no help in showing what I could do in such a remote place. 5. The place was nice to stay for one night and hike to the mirador. But it’s hard to kill three nights which is the minimum stay, unless the host can give more suggestions. From the lodge, it’s a 45 min to one hour upward hike to Madidi National Park entrance. Then there’s a path to a mirador which is around 1 km away. Another path takes 7 hours to San Jose xx. But the park ranger didn’t recommend I walked as he seemed to say that most people go by car etc. There was no internet or phone connection and I couldn’t research more what I could do. The path into the National Park was really rough and muddy. I wasn’t sure it was a right decision to walk alone along that path in a jungle. I gave up in the end and walked back to the lodge instead. That’s why I left after staying only one night. The host couldn’t refund the other two nights, of course. Then another cost is the transportation, since it’s so remote, the transfer to the nearest town cost 15 usd one way. Then you need to catch a collectivo and then by ferry back to Rurrenabaque. The airport pick up was 30usd which was more reasonable but when I left the lodge after the first day, the lady couldn’t send me back to Rurrenabaque even if I paid. I needed to catch a collectivo from the nearest town. Then I only knew that I needed to get a permit from an office in Rurrenabaque before I reached the lodge. That’s something the host didn’t remind the people who booked the lodge. Rurrenabaque is two hours from the lodge and the park ranger did ask me to see the permit. I knew this permit thing only from a review of their past customer, the host didn’t remind me at all or mention that in the description. In my opinion, there are lots of better ecolodges in this area that provide better food, guide services and transportation. It’s hard to spot animals with a guide and it’s even harder to do it yourself if the host can’t arrange extra services other than the lodge.

We had an unforgettable experience at the Lodge. The pictures are a true reflection of the Lodge and the views you can expect! They however can only express so much of the beauty of the place, it’s even better in real life! It’s a truly idyllic setting in the midst of the jungle. We wished we could have stayed longer as the views from the Lodge are the best you can get in any place... We also got great care from Aurie who prepared some sensational local dishes for us to enjoy on the balcony while taking in the beautiful scenery. It’s also very close to a river that offers some welcome cooling down after a warm/humid day walk in the nearby Amadidi national park! Would definitely recommend this hidden gem if you want to immerse yourself in the jungle and it’s wildlife. Gino & Bea
