Tweede Wind Self-catering Holiday Apartment in the coastal town of Yzerfontein on the South African West Coast is owned and managed by a retired couple. Tweede Wind is a neat and clean, modern self-catering apartment, located on the ground floor of a double storey hilltop-house, with a private entrance, and offers stunning sea views. Tweede Wind is 1 apartment with 2 bedrooms - Seastar and Seashell. They can be booked per name or together can accommodate up to four guests in two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open-plan kitchenette and living area, and a patio. we only take one reservation at a time so there will be no sharing by different groups. Each bedroom has a double bed, full en-suite bathroom, and a ceiling fan. The apartment is for your exclusive use and will never be shared with strangers. The kitchenette is well-equipped for self-catering and contains a full fridge-freezer, induction oven, microwave, kettle, cutlery, crockery, and a wide variety of utensils, and also has a ceiling fan. A start-up supply of tea, coffee, rusks, ice, bottled water, wood and Blitz, is supplied, also a sufficient quantity of cleaning materials, hand soap and toilet paper. The comfortable living area features loungers, tables and chairs, knee blankets in winter, a 50 cm flat-screen TV with DStv, and a music centre with a radio and CD/DVD player. An assortment of CDs, DVDs, books, magazines, games, children’s toys, and a pair of binoculars are available for guests to use. Wi-Fi is available, but not unlimited. The patio offers two sunbeds and a picnic bench. There is an indoor braai, and a Weber braai for outside use. Secure parking for one car, possibly two, is available inside the premises behind a motorised gate, otherwise a second car can be parked on the street. The entire building is equipped with an alarm system with external sensors, should guest prefer this, and the area is patrolled by two armed-response companies and neighbourhood watch. As the house lies on sloping ground there is a flight of stairs to the apartment’s entrance, and therefore unfortunately not suitable for wheelchairs, or a movement-impaired person.

This really felt like home away from home for 10 days. Owners Rupert and Christine are the kind of hosts you want to make friends with and stay chatting to for a long time. Their attention to detail and consideration of guests is next to none and this must be the cleanest Airbnb I’ve ever stayed at! Spectacular views over the Atlantic and the perfect spot to read, rest, work remotely and soak up the beauty that is Yzerfontein. It was a pleasure and a joy to stay here - worth every cent and more. Thank you Christine and Rupert!

We had such a great experience in Yzer. This place is located on the hill with an amazing view for relaxation and wonderful sunsets. This place is so neat and interior well put together. The host is so friendly and highly recommended! Loved the stay there and would 100% go back and be with them. Thanks so much for hosting us!

Yzerfontein is a typical small West Coast town with locals being friendly and helpful. We are used to local and international guests visiting and are in general aware that they will have questions and will need directions and information - the Yzerfontein Tourism office is also ready to assist with your questions. Safety and privacy is important to the inhabitants - something we share with guests as well
Things to do in Yzerfontein
1. Bird watchers can try and spot the endangered Black Tobie on the beach or head to the saltpans to view the Pelicans and Flamingos.
2. Be on the lookout for Southern Right and Humpback whales who frequent the area for most of the year.
3. Enjoy the indigenous gardens, which can be seen everywhere.
4. The main beach is the original area where former farmers of the area used to stockpile their cattle.
5. Visit and view the rock excavations located just before the harbour entrance.
6. Visit the Kalkbranders, located next to the oldest building in Yzerfontein, the Fish House, and learn about its history.
7. Visit the beach near Kelp Street during low tide and try and spot the abandoned tractor. Locals will be able to fill you in on the background story while you get to know the area.
8. Order a picnic basket, visit Schaapeiland and take a walk along the footpath to the harbour.
9. Enjoy the sunset from the harbour wall and look out over Meeurots with the 16 Mile Beach in the distance.
10. Enjoy some Gift Shop shopping by popping in at Pretty Cute, Wild Flour, PeriWinkles, and Blikaspaai.
11. Fresh Fish is for sale from fishermen arriving at the port at the Fish Market. Or you can buy frozen products from Dassen Seafoods.
12. On your way to Yzerfontein, don’t forget to stop at Weskus Padstal and Beaulah Farm Deli on the R27
13. Enjoy coffee and conversation at Wild Flour, Feast, Boathouse, Beaches and Droograk.
14. Freshly baked goods and delicious coffee is on offer at Rosemead Artisan Bakery.
15. Tuck into fresh seafood in the open air Strandkombuis restaurant.
16. Keep a look out for camels on the R315
17. Enjoy dinner at Meeurots and Lulas
18. Friday nights are Pizza nights at Yzervark Bistro
19. Walk all of, or part of, the 16 Mile Beach.
20. Rent bicycles from Yzerfontein Explorer and see the town on two wheels!
21. Enjoy a wide variety of watersports in Yzerfontein
22. Yzerfontein offers unlimited bike routes – just bring your bike or rent one.
23. Walk the town at your leisure
