This was a very unfortunate booking for me, as I've mostly had very good experiences in the past with my Airbnb bookings. I chose Omid's House of Art in good faith, because his listing looked to be a place where I could be safe and enjoy by myself, with good amenities. At the time of booking his listing said that WiFi, TV, a washer, breakfast included, multiple choice of beds, towels and bed sheets were all provided, though I see that after reporting back to Airbnb he has since removed these facilities from his amenities listing. However, unfortunately for me none of these things were provided at the time I made my booking, and so I was misled into thinking I was going to be staying at a well stocked apartment. On arrival in Herat I was kindly picked up from the airport but initially taken to a place that I hadn't booked...until I questioned Omid who then had me transferred to the House of Art in my original booking. Be under no illusions here...this is purely an apartment that is being used as an office by a group of men who work together. It is NOT as listed...there are NO bedrooms at all, and no beds of any kind despite what it says on his listing! I was given a single blanket and told to sleep wherever I wanted to. The sofa in the main room is too short for anyone to sleep on, so after looking for the non-existent bedrooms I had to sleep on the floor!! There are no pillows provided so I had to take a cushion off the sofa which was filthy and wrap it in my jacket to use to support my head. Because there is a cooler standing out on the balcony, it's not possible to close the doors so you have to sleep without security due to the open doors. This, as a single woman traveller in an already tricky country like Afghanistan does not feel safe at all. Luckily I'd only booked one night at this place so I was able to move early the next morning to a proper hotel which, for exactly the same price, was secure, comfortable with proper beds, a TV and WiFi that functioned, plus clean linen and towels which everyone should expect anywhere while booking a room stay anywhere in the world. Sadly, it apears that despite Omid's original listing being incorrect and completely misleading, instead of co-operating with Airbnb to rectify this using goodwill he elected to send me private messages accusing me of not thanking him for the stay (which I did when I returned the keys in the morning before I moved out) and sarcastically telling me that Afghanistan is 'not La Vegas' when I'm a very experienced world traveller and was easily able to find a much better place the following day for exactly the same price. Omid's place is overpriced for a floor space, zero facilities, and a grubby blanket.

Great place to stay very central and easy to find your way around. The people are amazing always willing to help and show you around!!
