We have been visiting friends in Port Eynon for 6 years and needed somewhere nice to stay within walking distance of their caravan. The cottage was perfect in all respects with everything you might need and a welcome pack of tea, coffee, milk and bara brith was thoughtfully provided. We loved our stay.
Great House Cottage is an absolute dream! Tastefully decorated and put together, in an idyllic Welsh village. Close to beach and great walks, pub, simple amenities. The perfect location to escape! The cottage is child friendly; enclosed garden and well thought out spaces. Wendy is an excellent host - thoughtful basics left for us on arrival and a really helpful and clear handbook on everything you need to know. We will most definitely be back!
Lovely, peaceful, comfortable cottage in a beautiful part of the world. Nice pub in easy walking distance, wonderful beaches close by and everything we needed for a chilled out break. The perfect weather was the icing on the cake.
We had a lovely few days at Wendy's place - the cottage is comfortable, very well-equipped, and in a nice, peaceful location, in the quiet village of Horton. It is just a 10 minute walk from the local beach (the nearer-end of which is dog-friendly all year), and also forms a good base to explore the Gower more widely (by car, in our case). Communication from Wendy was very clear and helpful. V happy to recommend.
Lovely cottage on the beautiful Gower coast, just a short walk from the beach and the Wales Coastal Path. The pubs and restaurants at Port Eynon and Oxwich are also close by for great meals out. The cottage was really well and tastefully equipped and spotlessly clean. Wendy was a helpful and responsive host. Highly recommended.
Horton is a small and picturesque coastal village set on a hill, with a beautiful, clean, safe and accessible beach, backed by sand dunes. It shares the bay with the village of Port Eynon at the other end of the beach, easily reached on foot.
The Gower coast path offers wonderful walks in either direction connecting unspoiled beaches.
Very near the cottage is Bank Farm holiday village, which has a bar, cafe, laundry and seasonal shop selling basic groceries and ice cream. The bar and cafe serve hot and cold food in season from breakfast until late.
A few minutes drive away is a great seasonal fish and chip shop, “Chips Ahoy” and a small Premier supermarket at Scurlage. A little further at Knelston is a garage and small supermarket at the rear.
At Port Eynon is our nearest pub, the Ship Inn, which is welcoming and dog friendly with hot food, and local beers. The Smugglers also has a bar and restaurant. There are also two seasonal fish and chip cafes with sitting out areas behind the beach.
Horton car park just behind the dunes now has a pop up van selling cakes and hot and cold drinks in summer season.
The very popular King Arthur pub at Reynoldstone is just a few minutes drive away. It does get busy in summer so book if you want a meal.
The Beach House Restaurant at Oxwich (literally on the beach) is a wonderful fine dining experience in a beautiful setting, highly recommended though not cheap since the head chef appeared on Great British Menu!
There are numerous wonderful walks on the Gower coast path, different beaches and coves to explore as well as further inland where there are common heathlands, historic sites, wild ponies, sheep and cattle. Please drive really slowly. Livestock frequently take over the road! And keep dogs under good control.
The Gower is a designated area of outstanding natural beauty and boasts the world renowned Rhossili beach.
On a practical note - Sainsbury, Tesco and Asda all deliver to the village.
There is a good bus service from Horton connecting to Swansea and other Gower villages.
