Kenora · 整套小木屋 · 1室1床0.5卫 · 可住5人 · Mullein Cabin w/ Lake Access @Wild Woods Hideaway
This cozylog cabin has a cathedral ceiling with a sleeping loft, indoor kitchenette, outdoor porch and picnic area with fire-pit. It is a 5 minute walk down to the lake and the rental includes access to a shared dock, wood-fired sauna and use of canoes, kayaks and SUPs. Located on 15 acres of mixed forest along the shores of Mink Bay, this cabin is part of a small eco-resort that has the feel of a wilderness getaway yet is less than 15 minutes from the shops and restaurants of downtown Kenora. Built with timbers from a local sawmill and named after the velvet-leaved wild Mullein that grows along the rocky north shore of the lake, this cozy dove-tail log cabin sits at the bottom of a rocky moss-covered hill. Close to all shared amenities and a short walk from the lake, Mullein is an ideal home away from home to venture out from and explore the surrounding land and lake! The main floor of Mullein is furnished with a woodstove, queen-size futon with comfortable mattress, a well-equipped kitchenette and a small washroom with a sawdust composting toilet. Upstairs there is one bedroom with a platform queen bed and an additional twin mattress that can be pulled out to accommodate a fifth guest. Outside the cabin has a small porch, a picnic area and a fire-pit. It is a short walk down to the dock and an even shorter walk to get to the cedar shower and wood-fired sauna. The kitchenette includes a camp cooler, 2-burner propane cook top, dishes and cookware including a French press coffee maker, dishpan and soap, drinking water and wash water. There is also a 2-burner propane stove on the porch and a grill for the fire-pit. Filtered drinking water and wash water in 5 gallon camping jugs are included with the rental as Mullein does not have running water. Hot showers are available in a separate cedar pay shower that is located next to the cabin. The cost is $1 for 5 minutes and we can make change for you if needed. Mullein has some features to increase its accessibility including parking next to the cabin, ramp access from the parking spot to the cabin and proximity to the shared shower building and washroom which are both built to code for wheelchair accessibility. The picnic area has also been leveled to increase accessibility. Due to its cozy size the washroom in the cabin is not wheelchair accessible and accessible sleeping is limited to the futon on the main floor. Access to the lake is by a foot path that includes a steep staircase. The cabin is part of Wild Woods Hideaway, a rustic eco-resort tucked into the forest and along the shores of Mink Bay, near Kenora, Ontario. In addition to cabin-specific features, your rental includes access to several shared amenities including a dock to sit on, swim and watch the sun set from, use of canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddle-boards (life-jackets included), hiking trails, wood-fired sauna and a cedar pay shower. The head of Mink Bay has been designated a provincially significant wetland and many birds and other animals either make their homes along its shores or stop in during their seasonal migrations. Depending on the time of year you can expect to see a variety of songbirds, waterfowl including pelicans and loons, eagles, partridge, deer, rabbits, turtles and beavers. We have also seen river otters, mink, wolves, foxes, herons, owls and bears. There is also a great diversity of plant life growing along Mink Bay with an incredible array of wildflowers that change with the seasons.
We loved the indoor fireplace! It was easy to start fire and keep warm. There is not a flush toilet. But never worry about the smell.
We loved our stay at Wild Woods Hideaway! The snowfall turned it into a Winter Wonderland and we can’t wait to return next year during the summer season to explore the area further
Very cool little cabin, fun off the grid experience. I would definitely recommend to friends and family coming through the area.
This cabin is one of thirteen accommodations available to rent at Wild Woods Hideaway, a rustic eco-resort hidden along the rugged shores of Mink Bay, near Kenora, Ontario. Ideally located for those looking for a wilderness vacation experience combined with the convenience of being located just minutes from downtown Kenora, Wild Woods Hideaway exists to make camping available and enjoyable to everyone.
The resort is located on 15 acres of mixed forest that time has reclaimed from a history of logging and farming. It includes a long stretch of rocky shoreline along Mink Bay, a small lake connected to the Winnipeg River which includes a protected wetland at the eastern side. We are currently the only dock on the lake and provide canoes, kayaks and paddleboards for our guests to explore the lake. The fishing is especially good in spring and the bay is known as a Muskie hot spot. In the summer the dock is a great place to swim from and the lake is quiet in terms of boat traffic as it is bordered by a train track on one side that limits access to the Winnipeg River through a tunnel beneath the tracks making it difficult for motor boats to enter.
Bordering the resort there is an additional 90 acres of environmentally protected forest with hiking trails. The forest is a mix of natural re-growth, human planting and garden plants gone wild. If you look closely in places you can see the remains of old stone fences built from the shale that lines the shore. The trails include several overlooks, a small waterfall as well as foot access to the neighborhood of Keewatin on the western edge of Kenora.
It is possible to walk from our cabins to some of the best restaurants in town or to pick up whatever you forgot to pack at the local grocery store. Additional shops, restaurants, beaches on Lake of the Woods and a Farmer’s Market are a 15 minute drive away in downtown Kenora. For avid hikers looking for additional trails, the Tunnel Island Trails and Vernon Nature Trails are located less than 10 minutes by car.
There is free parking for one vehicle next to the cabin. Additional parking is also available on-site. The neighborhood of Keewatin can be accessed through the trail system by foot or mountain bike (if you choose to bring your own). Downtown Kenora is a 15 minute drive away with no public transportation available.
