What makes this a good place is the value for money. I got an upgrade to a room with a good matras and shower. The room I had before did not have such a good matras. I did not see Melchior. I talked to Jimmy, who is a good guy. The kitchen and fridge were very dirty. I cleaned the fridge myself and my flatmates the rest of the kitchen. The location is great. you can walk to either Daan station or Technology station. Also, you can walk to Daan park. At night it;s quiet.

The room is perfect for the price and the great desk and large dresser are specially good. There's no view from the room but the big windows are great for natural light and the rooftop lounge area is a great alternative. Not the room but the rest of the house is a little worn out or "lived in" but never to the point where it felt dirty or impacted usability. The common area feels casual and relaxed. It was rare for the shared toilet to be a problem. Noise was never a problem either from the street or from other tenants. The host is a cool guy and occasionally invited me and the other guests out for food. It's great if you want the opportunity to be social with other travelers but don't want a hostel. The location is very good but not great. Da'an has a lot of cool stuff and the best parts of Taipei are walkable but long walks or short MRT rides. Garbage is weird. In Taipei you put trash in blue trash bags from 7-11 and trucks come around every day, but I never found where to buy them.

The video on the description was obviously taken a while ago. The back half of the kitchen's light doesn't work, so it's hard to see pots, pans, spices, etc without a flashlight. The amenities in the kitchen are very old, with the majority of the pots & pans I found rusted past the point of usability. The kitchen was messy (stains, cockroach traps that take up the majority of table space), and unorganized, and the shelves were dusty. The majority of my meals were eaten out, but it was difficult to cook anything but that in the microwave. There's no central trash can, and you're told to take your trash and dump it in a public trashcan (which is hard to find, and the nearest grocery store won't let you). Also means there's no recycling. Melchior was good until he made a mistake with rooms, where he got aggressive with the tenants. I guess it's fine for a few days, but don't get your hopes up, and don't stay a long time.
