Knotty Pony is located in a peaceful neighborhood four miles from town, and is perfect for quiet enjoyment, work vacations, and nature appreciation. Parties and rowdy times are not a good fit for this property. Sited directly on the North Boundary Wilderness area of JT National Park on acreage with mature shade trees and vistas, dark night skies and hiking are just outside the door. The six person spa is professionally maintained prior to each stay, and we now leave 72 hours between guests. Built in the seventies, The Knotty Pony is a big friendly house with an open floor plan, original 20' beamed ceilings and tons of warm wood. Appointed with restored vintage, new, and custom furniture pieces, the decor is finished off with craft objects and tribal rugs. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms comfortably accommodate up to six people. The master bedroom/bath suite is equipped with a king bed, large closets plus tub and shower. The two upstairs bedrooms respectively sport a queen bed and two twins (which can be pushed together with a topper to make a king): the upstairs bathroom also has a tub and shower. Experience pristine hikes and park scenery without ever getting in the car...simply step outside the door and walk the 50 or so paces that will take you onto the critter trails that crisscross the nearby roadless parkland. But back inside Knotty Pony, there're lots of diversions and comforts. Mini-splits quietly and cleanly heat and cool each zone of the house for comfort regardless of season. Cable TV in the mezzanine hang-out lounge, and for audiophiles, the acoustics in this wood house are so perfect that we just had to install a turntable backed up with an eclectic sampling of hundreds of LPs. Lounge in the professionally maintained six person hot tub and look out onto the rocks of the park or the dark night skies. Books, board games, cookbooks, an assortment of basic spices, and good cookware and appliances (Jen Air oven, a dishwasher, Wolf gas stove) speak to a range of interests. The generous 9' dining table is a great place to spread out and work on a project or enjoy a communal meal. Because it's such a roomy property, it might be tempting to invite the gang out for a bash, and although we love a good party, please refrain from having one at this location as we need to keep the property in A+ condition for guests seeking quality space and quiet enjoyment. Comfort, livability, and cleanliness are super important to us. Our annual return guests include writers and musicians who have used this house to hole up in for months at a time for immersive creative retreats, and snowbirds looking for a warmer version of home.
