Saint Pons de Mauchiens is a pretty Languedoc village set onto a hilltop overlooking vineyards. Saint Pons de Mauchiens has a historic centre dating back to the 10th and 11th centuries, and it is lovely to walk up into the cobbled streets. The house where the apartment is located is in the 19th century part of the village.
The village has a local shop where you can buy basic groceries and get fresh baguette and croissants every morning. There is also a post office. 2 km away in the town of Saint Pargoire there are a few boulangeries, a good butcher, pharmacy, tobacconist, post office and organic shop and mini-supermarket.
There are plenty of villages and towns within 5-10 minutes drive that have a more extensive range of stores, pharmacies, banks etc.
The stunning market town of Pezenas is a 10 minute drive. Pezenas has many artisanal and hand craft type stores, as well as some chic clothing and decor shops. It has a wonderful market on Saturdays and some great restaurants. There are 3 large supermarkets in Pezenas.
The little port town of Meze is a 15 minute drive, and has plenty of great restaurants and cafes, as well as a beach on the lagoon, Etang de Thau. to go the beaches on the Mediterranean there are choices from Sete, Marseillan and Agde which are a further 20 mins drive.
Most beaches have summer time 'paillottes', seasonal restaurants with sunbed rental and bed side service.
On the Etang de Thau, there are the towns of Marseillan Port, Bouzigues and Meze.
Marseillan is the headquarters of Noilly Prat, and you can visit the winery and see how this elixir is made. The port has plenty of good restaurants and cafes.
There is an extensive list in the apartment for recommendations of what to see and do whilst in the area. this includes historical buildings, wineries, landscapes, outdoor activities etc.
TRAVEL
Airports between 35-45 minute drive: BEZIERS and MONTPELLIER
Airports between 60 - 90 mins drive: NIMES, CARCASSONNE, PERPIGNAN
Airports between 120 and 130 mins drive: MARSEILLE and TOULOUSE
There are also plenty of flights coming into Girona ( 1hr45mins) and Barcelona (just over 3 hrs) across the Border in Spain.
The closest train stations are:
Beziers 30mins -
Montpellier 45 mins approx there are 2 stations including a new TGV station near the airport -
Agde 35 mins
If arriving from the south originating in Spain or the west of France there may be more trains to Narbonne which is a 45 min drive

There is parking close to the house - a 2 minute walk if nothing is available in the square.
There is a limited service of buses to Pezenas, which is a hub for many other towns and cities via bus. Taxis can be booked.
Car rental is the best way to explore the landscape, coast and towns of this area.
