Aughinish Island is located on the Clare-Galway border and has the best of both worlds; access to the Burren with all its treasures, and to Galway city, named one of the friendliest cities in Europe. You can explore hiking and walking in the Burren mountains, visit the nature reserve, see the ancient dolmens, Burren Perfumery and Chocolate Factory, have lunch in Linnane's famous lobster bar in New Quay, visit the Russell Gallery on the Flaggy Shore (lovely coffee shop therein) or spend time in Kinvara fishing village with its excellent cafes and restaurants and farmers market every Friday morning. When you want a blast of city life, head to Galway, a 45 min drive away, a thriving hub of artists and musicians with excellent shopping facilities, and of course, wonderful cafes and eateries.
On the island, Dirk and Hella sell organic vegetables, and local artist, Frank Sandford, one of whose paintings is hanging in the Blue Yard, welcomes visits to his studio. Contact details are on the information sheet.

You will need your own transport. The nearest shop is in Kinvara village, 12 km away. The nearest pub is the Traveller's Inn, 8km away near Traught Beach.
