Wintertime Attractions
· Snowmobiling – This house is located right on trail 8. There are hundreds of trails accessible via trail 8 throughout the Hiawatha National Forest.
· Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Cross-Country Ski Trail – one loop located near Munising on the park’s west end and the other is near Grand Maris on the park’s east end.
· Valley Spur Cross Country Ski Trail - Munising
· McKeever Hills Ski Trail – Munising
· Rapid River Ski Trail – North of Rapid River
· Bruno’s Run Trail – Wetmore (1/2 hour away) Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter (not groomed in Winter so experienced skiers recommended)
· Eben Ice Caves Trailhead – Deerton (1/2 hour away) Ice cleats for your shoes are recommended as the trail is very hilly, icy and slippery.
· Ice Curtains – View ice “caves” and formations around mid-December – early April along Pictured Rocks between Munising Falls and Sand Point along Sand Point Rd. Parking available at either location.
· Snowshoeing at Pictured Rocks – at the end of E. City Limits Rd. off H-58 in Munising is a 2.65 mile snowshoe trail with an additional 1.6 mile G-loop option. You can snowshoe on the short walking path to Munising Falls and the ½ mile Sand Point Marsh Trail. You can also access the North Country National Scenic Trail from Sand Point Beach parking lot near the end of Sand Point Rd. or the Grand Sable Visitor Center parking lot and follow the trail for many miles.
· Ice Climbing at Pictured Rocks – The most accessible columns are found along Pictured Rocks escarpment between Munising Falls and Sand Point along Sand Point Rd. There are also columns at Miners Falls & Miners Basin Falls.
