We had a lovely time staying at this property. It was close to the beach and we especially liked the pool and backyard. The kitchen was well stocked for cooking and the living area perfect for playing games and watching movies.
Brilliant place. Super easy, relaxed and homely. Plenty of spaces for everyone to do their own thing or come together. Highlight was the outdoor area with pristine lawn, landscaping, bbq and pool. Loved our stay. Thanks for having us.
Amazing home for a family getaway. The layout and the comfort of this home definitely made our holiday. I will definitely be back again to stay at this airbnb. One of the best.
Redhead, NSW, Australia
Redhead Beach is located at the northern end of a 9 mile stretch of coastline. It is known for beautiful cliffs, rocky outcrops and the 100 year old shark tower that provides excellent opportunities.
Redhead beach is a popular surfing and swimming beach, with free diving and spear fishing from the rocky platforms behind the infamous Redhead Bluff. This beach is patrolled in the warmer months of Sept/Oct school holidays until Anzac Day on 25th April by Lake Macquarie City lifeguards, as well as the fantastic Redhead Surf Life Saving Club. Rips and strong ocean currents are a usual occurrence so please swim between the flags, and take advice from locals outside of lifeguard season. It is a wonderful, picturesque beach with a cafe operating almost daily; a fabulous place to enjoy the sights of the annual whale migrations during May to November.
At the beach there are toilets, change-rooms and showers. Adjacent to the beach in Webb Park is a children's playground, bbq facilities and amenities. A state of the art new BMX pump track is currently under development at the top of the beach car park.
Running parallel to the beach is Owens Walkway that takes you on a bush walking track to the ducks at the Duck Pond and various beach access routes. The viewing platforms allow great insights into the Belmont Wetlands teaming with swamp life including swamp hens and egrets.
The locals favourite places to eat and drink include The Redhead Bowling Club with an Asian-Australian infusion bistro. The beach kiosk during the day (Friday nights in summer only) and the Redhead Surf Club Bar on (most) Sunday nights between 4-7pm. You can BYO a cheese platter and snacks enjoying the sunset and a cold beer! All of these facilities are within a 10 minute walk in each direction from your accomodation here at Shortland Street Beach House. The Seaview Malaysian on the corner of Beach Road offers lunch and dinner, and for the early risers you have coffee, breakfasts and brunch offered at The Villa Cafe, Roasted on Redhead and the award winning Redhead Bakehouse all in the village hub in Cowlishaw Street. Here you will also find a bottle shop, Chiropractor, pharmacy and doctors surgery, our local dentist practice, a physio and boutique homewares, and Lone Clothing store. Enjoy a game of bare-foot bowls at the 'Bowlo' or book a game of tennis at the local Redhead Tennis Club. What more could you need!
Within 15 mins of Redhead is the fantastic Glenrock State Recreation Park; an immensely popular mountain bike park as well as hiking and walking trails. Also within easy access is Lake Macquarie, a haven for water activity and wonderful views with restaurants and cafes scattered around it. Charlestown Square is the closest shopping mall for a shopping spree and a local Coles supermarket is within a 10 minute drive.
Getting around by foot, skateboard and bike is ideal in this seaside village. Parking at the beach becomes very busy during holidays, especially the peak summer holiday period so we advise you leave the car or do the 'classic drop and run' of all the beach gear and park back at home! The village and beach has easy free parking, as does Webb Park.
The Fernleigh Track is an attractive 15km shared walking and cycling path created along the former rail corridor from Adamstown to Belmont. There are multiple access locations easily found on maps from behind The Grange housing estate. Here you can enjoy a long, mostly shaded walk; or for the more keen a cycle that will connect you (heading North) all the way into the city of Newcastle, or to the golf club at Belmont (heading South) and beyond to the magnificent Lake Macquarie channel at Blacksmiths and Swansea.
