History
Originally only easily accessible by boat, Greenhithe was established as a self-sustaining community by Henry James Blyth, who settled in the area in 1882 and came from the original 'Greenhithe' in England. Greenhithe comes from the Old English word 'hithe' or 'hythe', meaning wharf. The name is appropriate, since Greenhithe is extremely 'green' in colour and also has a wharf at Lucas Creek - a water passage that flows into the estuaries of Auckland's Waitematā Harbour.

Greenhithe is well-connected to Auckland's road network, making it accessible via a number of different routes. If you are coming from the international airport and you don't have your own vehicle, the best option for almost any Auckland destination is a taxi service such as Uber.
Bus
Greenhithe has a number of bus stops that provide connections to other parts of Auckland. For example, you can catch the 120 bus service from the bus stop outside the village (5 min walk) to get to Constellation Station (10 mins travel time) where you can connect to many other destinations including the CBD (10 mins travel time).
Ferry
Greenhithe is located in the Upper Waitemata Harbour, and there are ferry services available from nearby Hobsonville Wharf for commuting to Auckland's CBD, or to many other harbourside suburbs and islands.
