Have you ever wondered how the original Duomo façade looked like? Leonardo da Vinci did not see the neo-Gothic spiers but a more Romanic architecture.
You can find the architectural evolution of the Duomo visiting the Duomo Museum or just walking along the narrow and characteristic street named Via Arena, a stone's throw from our apartment. You can discover a very well-preserved jewel: the fifteenth-century tombstone in the newsstand just at the very end of the Conca di Viarenna basin.
This small basin, dating back to the 15th century, in the past connected the dock, then Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese, with the internal pit. The basin was completed in 1439 and was used to make it easier to transport the blocks of Candoglia marble, arriving from the Naviglio Grande, as close as possible to the Milan Cathedral, whose construction with marble began in 1386.
The tombstone is made of Candoglia marble and exempted from tolls and duties the boats transporting materials for the construction of the Cathedral, with the famous formula AUF, "ad usum fabricae"
The bas-relief with the emblem of the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo, represents the ancient façade of the church.
Just a few steps from the apartment you will be stunned by the magnificent colonnade, the so-called Colonne di San Lorenzo, dating back to the IV century when Milan (Mediolanum) was the capital of the Western Roman Empire.
Have a nice walk in the afternoon along the 16-tall Corinthian columns, facing the San Lorenzo Basilica and then immerse yourself in the Milanese movida of the neighbourhood, famous for its great "aperitivo" and restaurants.
Porta Ticinese is definitely the place to stay… A perfect symbiosis between the charm of history and the sparkling nightlife!

You can reach the city center by walking just 20 minutes along the characteristic streets of this charming neighborhood, or take the tram.

You can arrive by car to Via Arena (next to Carrefour supermarket) and walk 200meters to the apartment. In this case you have to pay the daily entrance fee of Euro 7,50.
