Relax and unwind in beautiful surroundings. Enjoy the many birds, flowers and trees in our garden, and take long walks in the surrounding Welsh countryside, all nestled in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty... Enjoy a relaxing soak in our hot tub whilst looking out over the Berwyn Hills and Dee Valley, or take a stroll across the world famous Thomas Telford aqueduct, just a 5 minute walk away on the banks of the river Dee. You'll be spoilt for choice for places to eat out locally too! Our property, called 'Berwynfa', is a 1901, double fronted, detached, red brick Victorian house set in about a third of an acre of land, with garden areas of different descriptions on about 6 different levels. There are lots of flowers and trees, and paths to help you explore the garden. Your guest suite is an extension to the main part of the house with it's own separate entrance porch. You can access our property from the front or back of the house but we usually use and ask guests to use the back gate as it's nearest our access lane and driveway. You'll more than likely be greeted by our Golden Retriever, Poppy, and Tabby cat, Treacle. Welcome to Berwynfa! :)
Beautiful and thoughtfully planned place to stay in lovely, peaceful surroundings and with the most wonderful friendly and helpful hosts. Liz and Simon thank you so much for sharing your space, making us feel welcome and helping make our short weekend break such a joy.
Thank you so much for a needed get away. Lovely room comfortable and clean. Lovely garden and a perfect view from the hot tub.. would highly recommend. Perfect hosts welcoming and informative. Thank you again.. Will be back in warmer months x
Liz and Simon were great hosts, always keeping us up to date and offering plenty of recommendations of things to do or places to eat. Was very clean and left plenty of amenities for us to use, the hot tub was easy to use. Has great blackout blinds in the bedroom, was by far a better sleep than I usually get at home which was a bonus. Would love to come back.
I couldn’t fault a single thing at The Hyde or with the hosts, liz was so helpful and kind and the room was completely spotless, upon arrival we were greeted by liz and beautiful poppy(golden retriever) both were so friendly and welcoming! As it was Valentine’s Day there were rose petals on the bed and liz had even gone to the trouble of buying us a bottle of Prosecco, which went down lovely in the hot tub that evening. We had the most relaxing night and we can’t wait to stay again. Completely faultless!
Cefn Mawr is a lovely little outlying village just 8 miles south of Wrexham and 5 miles east of Llangollen with a rich industrial heritage. Set in an AONB, we are a short walk from the famous World Heritage site, 'The Thomas Telford Aqueduct', which is 200ft tall and quite a feat of engineering!
We have several pubs and cafe's within walking distance, including 4 on the canal just a short walk away.
There's also the very beautiful Ty Mawr Country Park just down the road. The walks down by the river in the park are just stunning and highly recommended, as is the walk over the aqueduct and having a look at all the canal boats and ducks!
It's a friendly area with a local community who look out for each other and the public transport links and taxi services are really good.
There are also a few local shops, including a florist, a few hair dressers, barbers and beauty salons nearby and also a good sized Tesco's and an Aldi just up the road.
There is also a doctor's surgery, pharmacy, Post Office and 2 takeaway houses in the village. We really are very well catered for!
The village is easily accessible by foot, bike, car or bus, and definitely lovely, if not a must, to explore on foot, but do be aware that it is quite hilly in places, with a couple of sets of steps in the country park, so do be prepared to exert yourself a little if heading out for a strole! We can advise where to explore if you'd like us to!
Parking is available on our driveway or on the street above the property, with no restrictions and parking is pretty good all around the village in general, apart from the main high street where you must use one of the free village car parks located at either end of the high street.
There is also a large free car park near to one of the canal walks, where you can walk across the famous 200ft tall Thomas Telford Aqueduct if you so desire!
There are also plenty of bus stops around the village where you can hop on and travel to our nearby towns of Wrexham, Llangollen, Oswestry and the very sweet village of Chirk. Again, we can advise you on this.
There is a railway station in the nearby village of Ruabon, just a 5 minute drive away, where you can access a train to Wrexham or Shrewsbury, or go further afield to Chester, Manchester or Liverpool from Wrexham General.
