Mondello, with its beach and breathtaking landscape, is one of the most fascinating neighborhoods of Palermo; a joyful district that is active all day long, where it is possible to find excellent seafood restaurants, traditional cafés, patisseries and outstanding pizzerias, of which many use the traditional wood oven. There are many cafés which offer all kinds of traditional Sicilian dishes and the unmissable Sicilian street food.

Piazza Mondello is the perfect place to start the day with a nice espresso and the typical croissant in one of the seaside cafés. Once breakfast is done, the next step is to reach the beach, relax and enjoy Mondello’s crystal clear water. The beach near the ancient village features a free access area, but you can also treat yourself by renting a beach chair and umbrella in one of the private beach clubs.


If you are into excursions, you could visit the nearby Natural Marine Reservation of Capo Gallo; a leisurely 45 minute walk along the rocky coast where you can dive in pristine waters.


Not far from Mondello, you can also visit the Sferracavallo neighborhood, an old fishing village with a beautiful gulf which became a paradise for scuba divers and a must for seafood lovers. Along the dock there are amazing family run restaurants that cook delicious dishes. The Santa Rosalia Sanctuary (the saint patron of Palermo) deserves a visit on a sunny day, and offers the best panoramic views of all the city.


Every Thursday morning from 8 AM to 1PM it is possible to visit the local market, which consists of a dense maze of stalls where you can find all kinds of characteristic Sicilian food, and most notably: bread, cheese, fresh fish, vegetables, flowers, ceramics. Definitely the right choice to savor excellent local food and try the delicacies that Palermo has to offer.
The villa is located in a very quiet, tree-lined Mondello neighborhood, close to other villas and dwellings. The beach (and the Piazza of Mondello), which are five minutes away by foot, is one of the most beautiful in all Sicily, with Caribbean-like colors in a fascinating marine context, with ancient art nouveau villas and a beautiful square.
The neighborhood features diverse touristic services and many restaurants, pizzerias, breweries, sandwich shops, pubs and discotheques.
Mondello is an appreciated bathing area, not only for the sea but also for the cultural activities that take place there all year round, and especially for food and wine. You should not miss the boiled octopus of “Calogero”, (which you should preferably eat with your hands while it is still hot) and the typical seafood (sea urchins, clams, oysters). Palermo is the second most famous city in the world for its street food, and Mondello is one of the places where it is possible to taste this delicacies, as the panelle sandwich, the spleen sandwich, the sfincione (a tasty pizza made with onions, tomato and oregano, not to be missed), cannoli, cassata and a lot more. For a fancy dinner, 800 meters away from the villa you can find an excellent restaurant, “Antiche Mura”, where you can try refined seafood dishes, and a few hundred meters away you can find one of the best pizzerias of the zone (Pizzeria Peter Pan).
For an élite dinner in an extraordinary context, you can dine at “Le Terrazze” restaurant, inside the enchanting “Stabilimento Balneare di Mondello” (an art nouveau building which was built on the sea, like a stilt house), or in the prestigious “Charleston” restaurant on the Mondello seaside. A few meters away from the villa you can find a mini market, an excellent bakery, a tobacconist and more. The pharmacy, the post office and the bank are approximately 600 meters away.
Casa Clio is only 2 minutes away from Mondello beach, close to the apartment there are mini markets, cafés, restaurants and all you might need.

Five minutes away from the apartment there is a stop for buses directed to Palermo (the city center of Palermo is 9 kilometers away from the house. At the same stop you can take the free shuttle that - just in the summer - continuously goes around Mondello.
