We thoroughly enjoyed our week on Nananu-I-Ra island. It is very peaceful and away from the world, yet relatively easy to reach (2 3/4 hours by taxi from Nadi airport, then a short boat ride). Maxine and the staff at Macdonald Cottages are very friendly and helpful. The cottage is newly renovated and very comfortable. There is no wifi but we bought a tourist SIM and had good mobile data (both Vodafone and Digicel work, but the staff reckon Vodafone is better). There is generator power between 8.30am - 2pm, and again from 5.30pm to 9.30pm. The trade winds combined with lots of louvre windows (all with insect screens) keep the cottage breezy and cool. The shower is ambient temperature, which is perfect in hot Fiji weather. We self-catered for lunch and breakfast, and chose to buy dinners. There is a small amount of snorkelling near the cottages, but a better option is to pay to go out with Ryan to one of the nearby reefs. Highly recommend Ring Gold Divers, a local family business.

Nananu-i-ra is a beautiful island only 2 and a half hours from Nadi, a lot less time than you would spend on a boat to the Yasawas. It also is a bit off the beaten track and very peaceful. This bure is the best accommodation to stay in on Nananu-i-Ra. Shakira and Maxine are very helpful and welcoming. Shakira does most of the online correspondence while Maxine looked after us on the island. We were self-catering, but the food in their restaurant, you can pre- order, looked very delicious. You can just relax in a hammock all day, go on little walking tracks, or do quite a bit of snorkeling around the island right off the beach. Except maybe off Konitki Point, there are no currents to worry about. There is also the option to be taken out to even more interesting snorkeling spots by Ryan, which we took advantage of, as well. What a fantastic holiday spot! My husband and I are staying on at MacDonalds for 3 weeks in another really nice Bure. It's our second time here. Heavenly!
