Enjoy an off-grid escape in our bespoke, hand-crafted, solar-powered eco cabin. The copper leaf wall adds a touch of luxury, while the skylight lets you stargaze from the comfort of your cozy abode. Unwind on the sofa in front of the wood-burner, or relax on the deck, toasting those marshmallows in the fire-pit, with countryside views, set in 200 acres of private land. The bathroom features cedar panelling, hot shower and compost toilet. Outside, guests have access to a wood-fired hot tub.
Had a lovely two night break at Alasdair’s place in Cinnibar Nest. The weather wasn’t great and there was a lot of mud but Alasdair had warned us about this so we were prepared. The outdoor tap was perfect for washing down our mucky pups feet before entering the cabin as well. Super peaceful location with no one to bother you. There’s a small village a few miles down the road with a Co-op which is handy if you forget anything. The hut itself has everything you need including a speaker and lantern which can be charged on the USB ports, and some nice little touches throughout. A bottle of bubbly chilling for us was also a lovely greeting. We struggled with the hot tub and keeping the heat in due to the weather but Alasdair is getting a lid fitted so this won’t be a problem in the future. Alasdair himself is super lovely and his service and attention to detail in his communications is fantastic. If you’re looking for an off grid, peaceful getaway, this is your place. Highly recommend.
Absolutely brilliant place, exactly as advertised and very cosy. A lot of effort to get the hot-tub warm without a cover but other than that it was perfect
I've thought carefully about this review, but on reflection I think it's fair. The cabin itself is a beautiful place, really well crafted and designed inside, and you can tell it's been a labour of love. The log store is not as pictured- there were barely any logs left, and the ones that were had been poorly stored and were damp. There was no kindling, and no firelighters. There were 4 lighters in the kitchen drawer, but none worked. The firepit grate had a handle missing. It was therefore impossible to make a good fire with the materials provided. The fire is the only heat source for the cabin. In addition, given that the cabin is £150 a night and heating is an essential, I feel that it's an absolute cheek to try and charge an additional £10 for wood (had we even been able to use any). There's no shelter/canopy on the outside area, so not easy to use the outside space on the rainy night we had. This could be a 5 star place, but for me a rethink on some key elements is needed
We had such a relaxing time at Cinnabar, Just what we were looking for to switch off. The hut has everything you need for a cosy stay. The views were beautiful watching the sun go down over the fields. Wellies or boots are a must if there's been recent rain as you walk through farmland with deep holes that fill up quickly!
The picturesque village of Sedgefield is just 3 miles north, offering a great selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants. Other activities include wake boarding and scenic country walks. 20 minutes away, Crimdon Dene offers wonderful views, huge beaches along the Heritage Coastal Path. The City of Durham is 20 minutes away by car.
There is ample parking space. Feel free to park up on the higher ground, to the left of the newly rendered farm house. The cabin is a few minutes walk along a dirt driveway and across an unlandscaped field. Be sure to wear appropriate footwear following rain as any white shoes will likely get muddy!
