The beach of Drapanias is located 5km east of Kissamos and 32km west of Chania, between Korfalonas and Nopigia beaches. It is named after the homonym village, situated around 1km south of the beach. It's east part is also called Kokkino Metohi, after the small village nearby, the residents of which own the land here.
Like its neighboring beaches, Drapanias beach lies in a long area of 2km. It is actually the central part of the vast beach that runs from Kissamos and extends to the east, till Cape Rodopos.
It is sandy, peble and shallow beach, and usually wavy due to the north winds. In the shore of Drapanias, there are restaurants, cafes and rooms. Umbrellas and showers are also offered. Drapanias has also two camping sites.
In front of the seaside village, the beach in Drapanias is located six kilometres east of Kissamos and 30 km west of Chania and it is sandy and peble, with shallow waters and a complete infrastructure. The beach in Nopigia extends westward to Kissamos.
It is an ideal choice for a holiday in a tranquil environment. If you walk from the village to the beach in Nopigia to the east, the coast becomes rockier with pebbles.
At short distance from the beach in Nopigia, following the road to the Koleni to the south, you will find the ruins of ancient Mithymnas, surrounded by olive groves, and the church of Agios Panteleimon, built in a cruciform form with a cylindrical dome and rectangular floor.
200 meters away from the main street of the village and close to the beach in Nopigia is Rizospilios cave, through which passes a river.
