Sighnaghi · 整套民居 · 6室14床3.0卫 · 可住16人 · Hidden gem: large house for groups in Sighnaghi
Upper and lower floors of a beautiful large house on a quiet, historic Sighnaghi street within 5 minutes' walk of town center. The two units—normally rented separately—are available for use together by a large group of 10 to 17 persons. Top floor is at street level with stairway access to the garden level. Altogether six bedrooms, three bathrooms, a small and a large kitchen, two washing machines, two dryers. Balcony, two covered porches, lovely garden, parking plus large covered outdoor space. Two beautiful and well-appointed floors of a classic old Sighnaghi house built into the hillside of a quiet historic lane near the center of Sighnaghi, with gorgeous views of Tsnori, the Southern Caucasus mountains & the Alazani Valley. Both levels are nicely furnished, comfortable and suitable for families/groups that include young children. A baby crib and a high chair can be made available with advance request. A minimum of 10 persons is required to rent both levels together. Street level: Three bedrooms each with a queen-sized bed (two of which also have a set of bunk beds), a well-equipped small modern kitchenette, a spacious tiled bathroom with shower, washing machine and (remarkable for Georgia) dryer. High ceilings, traditional thick stone and brick walls help keep the heat away in summer, while the double-pane windows, wall-mounted gas heaters and down comforters will keep you warm during Sighnaghi's chilly late fall, winter and early spring months. Garden level: Three bedrooms: a large bedroom with double bed, single bed and bunkbeds; a small bedroom with one single bed; and a third bedroom with two single beds. This floor has a large kitchen, a large dining/common room, two covered porches, a sitting room, two bathrooms, a washer and dryer, and gas heaters. The garden level is accessible by its own outside staircase as well as by an exterior staircase down from the street level unit. There is a parking platform at the side of the house for one or two small vehicles. Otherwise cars can be left parked down the lane on the approaching street.
Sighnaghi is a compact little town and you can get everywhere you want within the town by foot. In the summertime you can rent quad bikes, Segways and ATVs if you want. Stroll around the city walls, follow trails in the forests on the outskirts, take a footpath shortcut to Bodbe Monastery.
While much of Sighnaghi has been renovated during the last half-dozen years, with newly-paved roads, real sidewalks and street lamps, our lane is one of the town's last historic hold-outs. The last bit of road to the house is unpaved and there are no street lights, so if you arrive at night be sure to have a flashlight at hand for the final 50 meters.
I will send you a map to the house ahead of time. Please don't try to find the house using your GPS navigator—it will take you in the wrong direction!
Sighnaghi is about a 1-1/2 hour drive east on the Kakhetian highway from Tbilisi. If you don't have a car, you can always take a taxi (roughly 90 lari). But from Tbilisi inexpensive marshrutkas/minibuses (under 10 lari) run daily from near the Samgori metro station at 9am, 11an, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, and 6pm, with a similar schedule returning to Tbilisi from Sighnaghi.
自我介绍
I've lived and traveled so many places. Born and raised in California, studied at Princeton University in New Jersey, studied language for 9 months in Tokyo, Japan, traveled the old Silk Road route alone with a backpack for most of a year after finishing college, lived in Berkeley, CA and Washington, DC and Hopewell, NJ before becoming a long-time resident of Vermont. I now live much of the year in Chicago. A musician and singer, I have been co-director of the non-profit music organization Village Harmony since 1995 and as such I travel and teach widely in the summertime, both in the US and abroad. Over the years I've taken groups to sing and study music in SO many places—all over Europe, to Bulgaria and Ukraine, to Corsica and Ghana and South Africa. But the country I love bringing people to the most is Georgia. I first brought a group of singers to Sighnaghi in K'akheti in eastern Georgia in the summer of 2001. Smitten by Sighnaghi's location and old-time charm—and the wonderful singers of the local traditional music ensemble, Zedashe—I impulsively bought a lovely old house here. The house, with its two levels each with kitchen, bathroom and multiple bedrooms, became the base for many, many ensuing Village Harmony programs in Georgia. The upper floor just underwent a major renovation for AirBnb and the lower floor is currently primarily opened up for group rentals, with total space for up to 19 people to sleep. In 2006 I bought a second house, just a few steps away. It has also been fully renovated and includes a large upstairs rehearsal/conference room (which is rented out separately) and a lovely 2-bedroom downstairs apartment with a separate entrance. In addition I own the small house immediately next door which is awaiting a rebuild. When finished, the complete retreat complex formed by the three buildings will be able to comfortably accommodate visiting groups of 30 or more. My hope is to help house university and cultural groups from around the world to Sighnaghi coming here for residencies and music/dance workshops.
