Welcome to the Haus Rether guesthouse, located in the village of Bunești in the heart of Transylvania. The historic farmhouse was built in the 1790s by the Transylvanian Saxon Rether family. After the emigration of the Transylvanian Saxons, it stood unused for many years and was in danger of falling into disrepair. Now it is being given a new lease of life and offers its guests a carefree rural idyll.
We are a group of 8 friends and we booked the whole place for New Year's Eve. The guesthouse is a really beautiful mix of traditional with a touch of modern. The rooms are cozy and it really gave us that sense of feeling at home. The kitchen is very well equipped, you will find anything you can think of. The communication with Alexander and Mariana was also good, they are very receptive and friendly. We strongly recommend them and the guesthouse.
We enjoyed our Christmas Holiday in an authentic House in Transilvania. We felt the magic of the village and the kindness of the people leaving in it. The house was reconsuctuted with all you will need. Thank you for making our holiday!
Very well preserved area, traditional house and yard, very close to the UNESCO heritage Viscri village.
Surrounding are amazing so you can take a bike from the guesthouse and ride through Via Transilvania - famous bike and hiking route, close to Viscri, others Saxon villages and Sighisoara. The place is hidden and beautifully restored. Rooms are cozy and well isolated. You don't feel the heat from the outside. There is a lovely rustic outside kitchen where you can prepare breakfast and other meals with local products. Breakfast is also available with extra charge. We had a whole place rented as we came with our dogs. The yard is fenced so no chance to run away to the neighbour. For me perfect place to run away from the big city noise. One thing could be better is a wi-fi connection but overall we managed to work. I strongly recommend Alexander and his guesthouse. I found my peace here. Will come back for sure!
The Transylvanian Highlands, which are bordered by the rivers Târnava Mare, Hârtibaciu, and Olt, offer a landscape that is as varied as it is beautiful: mysterious forests, pastures and meadows of great natural importance, eagles and bears, but also fortified churches and villages that seem to have come straight out of a fairy tale. The largest continental Natura 2000 protected area in Romania is a great place to take in the natural nature and relish quiet moments.
Learn the fascinating history of the Saxon immigrants from the Middle Ages as well as the various nationalities or ethnic groups that have coexisted in this area for ages, such as the Romanians, Hungarians, and others. The inhabitants will open their houses and their souls and invite you into their world if you venture off the asphalt roads and into the pathways they have been using for centuries.
People in the Transylvanian region between Rupea and Sigishoara used to mostly harvest oat because of the region's harsh environment. As a result, this area was known as "Haferland," which is German for "Oat Country."
These Transylvanian villages have developed a magnificent and distinctive charm over time that still makes us nostalgic for bygone eras.
You can return to the era when the Transylvanian Saxon "neighbourhoods" were active by visiting Crit, Viscri, Mesendorf, Cloasterf, Roades, Saschiz, or Fiser.
Old fortified churches that tempt you with moving organ recitals can be found across the Transylvanian region as you travel there.
