The Gites benefit from beautiful thick stone walls which help keep the rooms cool in the summer, whilst retaining the heat in the winter. The Hanger provides a great place to sit and eat anytime of the day (or just sit and relax) with that all important shade in the summer. We live in the house on the other side of the courtyard and are there to provide you with any assistance you may need with your stay, or to leave you in peace to enjoy your relaxing holiday at Les Grandes Ecures. There are two gites on site. These are set in a traditional Charentise courtyard and are barns lovingly renovated to provide comfortable modern accommodation whilst still retaining many of the original features. Thus providing a great base to relax and from which to explore this beautiful region and the varied attractions of the Charente-Maritime and Charente. Close to the beautiful historic towns of Cognac, Saintes and St Jean D’Angley but also within easy reach of the lovely beaches of Royan, La Rochelle and the Cote Sauvage. Or relax by the pool surrounded by sunflowers and vines. The ground floor gite (100m2) has two bedrooms: one (20m2) with a king-size bed and the other one (15m2) two single beds. It also has a walk-in wet room shower ideal for those who find standard showers difficult to access and has the space for a wheelchair or shower seat. It has an open-plan living/dining room and kitchen (42m2) with dishwasher, microwave, hob and oven. There is a TV (with English channels), DVD player and ipod dock. There is also a wood burner for the slightly colder evenings.

Sejour tres agreable...reposant en famille ! Piscine tres propre et a volonté... Cuisine d été...grand frigo...table a l'extérieur protégée des intempéries...barbecue au top...La region ....bon bof....ce n'était pas le but ...sauf a acheter du Cognac...Kelly et son mari Motard !!...tres cool ...!! Je conseille d'ailleurs VIVEMENT aux motards de passage ..possibilite de mettre les becanes a l abri...et après une longue route sous le soleil ...un bain rafraichissant ...c'est le Top du Top....!! Bref , nous sommes tres heureux d'y avoir séjourné..... Une legere remarque sur une odeur persistante d'humidité.....dans la.chambre parentale du bas... Merci and See You ...Kelly !!!
Superbe séjour chez Kelly et Ian. Le logement était parfait, propre et très bien équipé. Un endroit reposant pour les vacances. Le jardin avec piscine et jeux ont été très appréciés par nos deux petits garçons. Kelly est très à l’écoute du bien être des ses hôtes. Aux alentours de nombreuses activités entre randonnée à dos d’âne, canoë sur la Charente, accrobranche, abbaye, vélo-rail, etc… La région est magnifique. Bonne continuation à vous. Wow - what a gem this gite appartment is! - Spotlessly clean, quality accommodation and is so well-equipped. We all enjoyed our 10 night stay here, it's located in lovely countryside and there are plenty of towns and coastline to visit. Kelly and Ian were very welcoming and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here. Thank you both!

We had a lovely 5 days in Kelly's beautiful apartment. The peace and tranquility of the area was very welcome; it's good to go a little bit off the beaten track. The local shops were a cycle ride away through the vineyards, and Cognac was a beautiful town to explore. Kelly has taken a lot of time and thought in renovating the barn and it seemed everything was just perfect. The play area, pool, badminton and table tennis were a big hit with the kids and afforded us time to relax. We loved it there and will definitely be back!

Our gites have the benefit of feeling lovely and secluded on the edge of the hamlet with beautiful views of the Sunflower fields and vineyards, but only 10 minutes away from Matha (our nearest town) or for more night life or shopping only 20 minutes from Cognac and 30 from Saintes.
We are also only 1 hour from the beautiful sandy beaches of Royan, the Cote Sauvage and Le Palmyre (with its wonderful zoo). There is also the stunning L’île d’Oléron and Ile de Re (close to La Rochelle) to explore (both connected to the mainland by a bridge)
We are located in a small hamlet called Les Grandes Ecures, our nearest town with supermarket, bank etc is called Matha and is 10 mins north. The nearest boulangerie is only 3mins drive away in Migron which also has a post office. Cognac and St Jean d'Angley are both only 20 mins away with Saintes only 30 mins and Angouleme 1 hour.

We are Kelly, Ian, our children Martha and twins Archie & Josie plus Rufus the dog. We have lived here since we bought the house and barns in 2006 and love the beautiful peaceful countryside, large spaces and the fact we were made welcome as soon as we opened the gates to move in. We have renovated the barns and house from top to bottom ourselves and have put all our love and care into making the Gites and gardens a beautiful, relaxing place to holiday and after eleven years and three children! we would not wish to be anywhere else.
