Enjoy the peace of your very own woodland clearing, cooried doon in a comfortable, cosy yurt. Take a break from frenetic modern life and reconnect in a beautiful, welcoming space: swing in a sun-dappled hammock, watch the stars by a romantic campfire or relax in front of the woodburner after a beautiful woodland walk. This authentic mongolian space feels like a magical bubble where you can truly unplug and unwind. A perfect getaway! This cosy yurt is the perfect place to unwind. It's an authentic Mongolian Ger, compete with stunning hand-painted timbers. Inside this beautiful round space is a woodburner to stay cosy, a comfy double bed and futon sofa bed, with a tiny library with in arms reach. A dining table with chairs nestles by a small-but-perfectly-formed kitchen with gas hob and grill. Or you can cook on the outdoor fire pit of you are feeling adventurous! The yurt is completely off grid. A solar panel charges a small battery for led lighting, although you can go candle-lit for that romantic vibe. Without electricity, a cool box is provided to keep things cool, so it's worth buying perishables like milk and meat at our local shop a mile away. A large container of fresh tap water is provided and can be refreshed whenever you need. The cute compost toilet is a short walk away in the yurt's clearing, alongside an outdoor bucket shower for a close-to-nature washing experience! The yurt is set in a beautiful woodland clearing shared only within occasional free-range Shetland sheep. Relax by the outdoor fire pit: a fine place for star watching and you might even see the northern lights! Go al fresco and take your meals in the sunshine at the outdoor table and chairs, you can even do the washing up outside at the outdoor washing up area. Set down in the woods is a wonderful spot, but please be aware that it's a relatively steep walk back up to the vehicle access.
One of our best Airbnb experiences! Eleanor is a wonderful host and has such a nice set up in a private, wooded area that is off grid and very comfortable. Highly recommend!
Amazing place to stay! Really peaceful, calming and a great place to get away from the world, plus the coolest the shower in the world! :)
Stayed at Ele's yurt for two nights, and we wish we had more time there! Her instructions/directions to get there were very helpful, and Ele is incredibly friendly ~ made checking in so easy. The yurt is so cosy, warm, and well equipped, enough water for all the cooking and washing, the outdoor fire and the wood burner were our favourites as well as the bucket shower ~ an unreal experience, and all in the most idyllic setting for a change of pace. The animals and helpful neighbours were grand craic too. Can't rave enough, hope to go back again :)
We had a wonderful 3-nights stay in Eleanor's place. She was a great host, friendly, responsive and offering helpful information and advice about the area. Unique and very peaceful location in a beautiful spot close to the village of Cannich (where there is a small supermarket) and Glen Affric (with numerous trails for walking and hiking). The yurt itself was spacious, and we immediately felt at home. We'd love to come back one day. Highly recommended!
A stunning mountain area, we overlook Strathglass, and into Glen Affric and Mullardoch: a stretch of mountains wilderness that continues all the way through to the West Coast. The Affric Kintail way goes by our plot.
This is an ideal place to access the gorgeous Glen Affric (15 mins) as well as Plodda Falls (25 mins) and Loch Ness (20 mins). The ancient burial cairn at Corrimony (10 mins) is not to be missed. There is amazing mountain horse trekking at Cougie and wonderful car-free cycling at Strathfarrar. Further trips are possible to Skye etc, but I'd really recommend taking the time to explore our local gems. Although quite often people find they don't want to leave the peace of the clearing!
The village of Cannich 2 miles down a (big-if-youre-cycling) hill has a brilliant wee shop, bog cotton cafe and a hotel/pub (The slater's arms).
If you need any recommendations for planning your trip, feel free to get in touch.
Cars are definitely easiest, especially for accessing Glen Affric and Plodda Falls, though if you're a keen cyclist there's many routes you can do from our place.
The Stagecoach bus service between Inverness and Tomich (No. 17) stops right at our drive end on request, so its possible to be car free and still enjoy some of the area.
