Excellent, very clean basic accomodation right in town, which is what we wanted. The bed wax extremely comfortable, and the secure lifts and free parking were a great bonus
It was as expected, nothing luxury but enough for the stay. Well equipped, nice receptionist, good area
Great location. Short walk to Queen Victoria Market where you can catch the free CBD Tram. Room is in the Arrow hotel which faces Swanston street which can get noisy. The parkade gate was closed when we arrived and the instructions said to call the phone number on the gate but no one answered. A janitor who happened to be there told us which door to go into the hotel to register and get a sensor card to open the parkade door. Bed is getting worn out, sagging and feel the springs.
NEIGHBOURHOOD DESCRIPTION
Set in the heart of the Melbourne CBD, just steps from train and tram stations, Arrow on Swanston is the perfect gateway to the top attractions and things to do in Melbourne, Including:
VICTORIA MARKET
When in Melbourne, you simply have to experience the iconic Victoria Market. It is just an 8-min walk to the largest open-air market in the southern hemisphere. Melbournites love their heritage-listed Queen Victoria Market – it is their heart and soul - and you’ll soon see why. In addition to great shops, you’ll find street buskers, unique souvenirs and fresh produce and treats at the Dairy Hall.
SHOPPING CENTRES
Nearby Melbourne Central and QV Melbourne shopping centres are two of Victoria’s best. Melbourne Central is the largest shopping centre in the CBD, with more than 300 retailers (including Hoyts cinema) spread over five levels. It includes the castle-like shot tower that was built in 1889.
Stylish QV Melbourne is known for its delicious restaurants and cafés as well as its night life. Both shopping centres have Strike Bowling, and QV has a pool hall, darts bar, karaoke bar and flight simulator. Both centres are within a short 8-min stroll. An 8-min tram ride will take you to further high-end shops along Bourke Street Mall and Collins Street.
FINE DINING
Melbourne is celebrated worldwide for its vibrant coffee houses and bistros, found in arcades and alleys with street art (and even in Arrow on Swanston itself with our own delightful café). Using the best coffee beans, Melbourne’s roasters and baristas are among the most knowledgeable and innovative in the world. The City’s fine restaurants will also delight, with many of the establishments boasting celebrity chefs, chef hats, Michelin stars, a superb wine selection and stunning surroundings.
There are also many reasonably-priced restaurants surrounding Arrow on Swanston, including in Queensberry and Victoria Streets (a 3-min walk). And of course, visit Lygon Street for Australia's best Italian restaurants (a 5-min walk).
STATE LIBRARY OF VICTORIA
Founded in 1854, the State Library of Victoria is the State's premier reference and research library and one of the world's great libraries. It is famous for its magnificent octagonal reading room, a huge multi-storey space below an elegant dome. In addition to books, services, exhibitions and cultural programs, the library features artefacts from Victoria's cultural and social heritage, including John Batman's journal and Ned Kelly's armour.
OLD MELBOURNE GAOL
Take a tour of the historic bluestone prison where 133 people (including Ned Kelly) were hanged between 1842 and its closure in 1929. This is the oldest prison in Melbourne (construction started just four years after the city was established) and is now a popular museum and tourist attraction. The Gaol is just a 6-min walk from Arrow on Swanston.
BOURKE STREET MALL
Located nearby between Swanston and Elizabeth Streets, the Bourke Street Mall is a bustling pedestrian-only thoroughfare (but watch for the trams). The vibrant shopping street is home to upscale Australian department stores like David Jones and Myer, fashion retailers like H&M, and superb eateries on GPO Lane.
FEDERATION SQUARE
