Welcome to our self-contained hilltop studio surrounded by fields and panoramic views over the Northumbrian coast. A place to unwind and reconnect with nature. Located within walking distance of a remote outstretched beach and just a few miles from the coastal village of Alnmouth and historical village of Warkworth. Alnmouth train station is only a 5 minute drive. From here you can travel directly to Edinburgh in 1 hour. The studio features an open plan sleeping/ living area with a kitchen. Skylark studio is a light, modern and spacious retreat with amazing undisturbed panoramic views of the sea and the beaches and dunes of Alnmouth bay. It’s on the North wing of our self built timber and stone converted barn. These materials feature within the studio alongside with natural sustainable finishes including bamboo floors, birch plywood kitchen and cupboards, natural plaster walls and natural acoustic ceiling panels. It has an open plan living and sleeping space with a well appointed kitchen featuring an electric oven and hob, small microwave, fridge and dishwasher. The studio is exceptionally eco-friendly with an air source heat pump (ASHP) providing underfloor heating throughout, triple glazing and a large soapstone-clad log burning stove to keep you cosy throughout the colder days of the year. Thanks to our hilltop location, beautiful sunrises over the sea and sunsets over the Cheviots can be enjoyed year-round. If you prefer a dark bedroom we advise our guests to bring eye masks as none of our blinds or curtains are blackout. The north side of the studio has a crafted window seating area to make you feel even closer to the surroundings, it’s the favourite place for many when the weather outside is stormy and wild. The studio is a perfect place for birdwatching, to read, write, play games, connect with nature and for artists to be inspired. There is a guitar waiting to be played and we can provide an easel for painting/ drawing on request. Because it’s a place to unwind and connect we chose not to put a tv in our studio. The studio does have WIFI. The sleeping area has a king sized bed that is separated from the living area by lightweight linen curtains. There are environmental friendly vegan down duvet, pillows and crisp cotton sheets and ample space for clothes and shoes in the hidden cupboard spaces. No matter where you are in the studio you are surrounded by panoramic views overlooking the fields with wild flowers in late spring/summer, the sea and Alnmouth bay. It’s an wonderful place from which to spot wildlife. Regular visitors to the sky, woods and fields nearby are a pair of resident barn owls, buzzards, curlews, lapwings, skylarks, oyster catchers, deer, badgers and hares. We are also lucky owners of three happy and healthy hens. The bathroom has a toilet, wash basin and shower. When you stay in the studio you are staying in a truly magnificent space that has been built and designed by the owners Giles , who is an architect, and his wife Geno. When not rented out this studio is a creative place for Geno who is a jewellery designer. Her work desk, hidden behind tropical plants, takes up a small corner of the studio and does not intrude on the guest space. For true jewellery lovers there is a small cabinet with her latest designs for you to buy.
