Welcome to Atlantic Bay Rest's Lookout! Book it to stay at the edge of the world. If you are adventurous and like to be on the sea, surrounded by nature, you found the perfect place! This is not a five star accommodation but more like a million stars out of your window. If you’re used to camping, you will love this as it’s glamping style! Please keep reading for more information... The spacious wooden hut is perched on top of a cliff and has a million dollar view over the sea and the mountains. Inside, you'll only find a small double bed for two in love, a drawer chest, a comfy chair for your morning coffee staring at the ocean and hooks on the wall, so this is simple life at its best. Some sides of the hut are mostly windows to give you that incredible view. The outdoor hot shower is on the way down to our private beach. You must be able to walk down stairs. The toilet is about one minute walk away and has a small sink outside. You’re also free to use the Galley (common room with kitchenette and TV described in more detail below). You have no electricity in the hut but you can charge in the Galley. If you prefer, we have another one bedroom listing with ensuite bathroom called "Dream Suite". As you can see in the photos, Atlantic Bay Rest and all its buildings are located right on the sea and surrounded by nature. We recommend this accommodation especially to people who love nature and the outdoors. It's a great spot to hike, do water sports, disconnect and relax, read or even write books, be creative... It is wild, raw, rustic and unpolished but we are confident that you will love it if you are the right person.
What a wonderful place, it feels like you're at the end of the world. Would recommend it to anyone who wants a bit of off grid adventure!
The most beautiful location I have ever stayed at. I throughly enjoyed my stay here and will definitely be back.
We had a great stay. Laura was very friendly and helpful. Facilities are as described, glamping. The location is really really stunning and unique, the sunrise and views have to be seen to fully appreciated and I loved the soothing sound of the waves, the private beach, the 'rope' bridge, the gardens, plus lovely local walks too. Didn't get to use the kayaks or swim in the sea here this time - would definitely return to do this! The sauna was great. Thank you.
We stayed in the Lookout and it was one of our favourite staycations ever. The views were amazing from the cabin. It was so relaxing being there. The beach was lovely and we really enjoyed our outdoor morning showers. Laura provided eco friendly shower gel, shampoo and conditioner which smelled gorgeous. We would really recommend the place.
The property is located in the quiet village of Smerwick at the end of a tiny narrow country road. It's very calm and peaceful. The only traffic is when the farmers move their cows or sheep.
If you somehow got tired of our private beach, you can walk 15 minutes to access another beautiful long beach, Beal Ban Beach. The historical "Fort Del Oro" is also a short walk from us, in the same direction as the beach.
For hikers, we are in a prime location to walk the 3 sisters and Mount Brandon with views over the ocean.
If you are a golfer and brought your golf clubs, an 18 hole golf links is only a 5 minutes drive away.
Ballyferriter village is also only a short drive away and has authentic pubs for a Guinness or some food.
There are no shops in Smerwick or Ballyferriter so if you'd like to use the kitchenette, get your supplies in Dingle beforehand.
Our property offers a small parking area at the end of our driveway. A little warning that we are down a narrow country road. Due to the remoteness of our location, having a car makes your life easier. But bikers and walkers will find getting here quite rewarding too. There is a public bus from Dingle to Ballyferriter (it stops at the church), which helps getting you closer.

Hi! I’m a Belgian who fell in love with Ireland and an Irish man. In 2020, we (Laura and Ricky) moved back from Indonesia after over a decade of working there in tourism (scuba diving and adventure travel). We started caretaking of Atlantic Bay Rest from September 2022. Come stay and meet us! Peter from Germany bought the property in the 70s. In the late 90s, he renovated this 100 year old property with imported wood from Ghana where he spent a big part of his life. He still resides on the property, splitting his retirement time between Ireland and Ghana. Peter Paul, Peter’s son, is the owner of Atlantic Bay Rest that Laura is now managing. He doesn’t reside at the property. Booking with us supports a woman run business, which is black owned. And we welcome all no matter sexual orientation, gender, skin colour, etc. The only thing required is a love for nature which surrounds you on this property.
