If you have mobility issues this is not a suitable home for you. You must watch your head going between rooms and doorways. The house has been lovingly restored. and is of historical significance. The basement, with hand hewn chestnut log ceiling, holds the laundry and game room. The second floor is the kitchen, living room, quarter bath and access to a mahogany deck with spectacular views. The third floor holds two bedrooms, office space and a full bath with shower and clawfoot tub. The basement, with hand hewn chestnut log ceiling, holds the laundry and game room. Also known as the “Benchoof Homestead”, this historically significant stone house on 16 beautiful acres with manicured, professionally landscaped grounds & lush forest is located on Blue Ridge Summit in Pennsylvania just one mile from the Maryland line. History tells us that General Robert E. Lee stopped at this farm on his retreat from Gettysburg in 1863. One approaches the house down a private driveway, through a small wooded area that opens to reveal the expansive secluded estate, with a gorgeous “storybook” restored stone house, numerous log out-buildings and 2 spring-fed ponds with cascading falls. There are beautifully maintained trails that meander through the estate’s wooded areas that are rich with wildlife, including deer, wild turkey & a full complement of birds and plant life.
Michelle's place was great- a true time warp. The house is comfortable and accomodating. There was plenty of wildlife to view and great trails on the property for walking the dog. The location is also great, very close to the Appalachian Trail, not from from Gettysburg, and a quick jaunt to DC. The area is overflowing with Civil War history, I would recommend this location for anyone interested in history or looking for a nice peaceful getaway.
This place is absolutely magical. Rich with history, but comfortable, thoughtfully updated, and carefully maintained, it’s the perfect home base for a visit to Gettysburg. Our family of four and lab stayed for a long weekend and loved everything about Michelle’s home. The property itself is stunning (pics don’t do justice), and the inside makes you feel like you’re transported back in time – a true “living history” experience. Our kids felt like they were in the middle of the civil war era. And us adults got to enjoy warm early summer evenings on the newly finished deck overlooking the lawn, springs, and woods. Truly nowhere else we would rather stay in the Gettysburg area. If it’s available, book it – you won’t regret it.
Michele was very accommodating and was a great hostess. The property was beautiful and gave us the much needed break we were looking for. Thanks for a great long weekend.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at the farmhouse! The surroundings were beautiful and we saw so much wildlife just looking off of the porch (deer, turkeys, groundhogs, frogs). Michelle was very responsive and helpful. Very easy to get to and from Gettysburg but felt very private and peaceful.
Gorgeous mountain top setting, very close to the Appalachian Trail and 20 minutes to Gettysburg, 15 minutes to Ski Liberty. Blue Ridge Summit was a fashionable Summer retreat during the late 1800's for Baltimore and Washington D.C. elite. The nearby Monterey golf course is one of the 15 oldest in the country.
ample parking. a car is a must.
