BREDA is a village in the region of La Selva. It is part of the Montseny Natural Park and is located between the Montseny Massif and Montnegre. It stands at an altitude of 169 m above sea level and the municipality occupies an area of 5 km2. The town’s population numbers almost 4,000 people.
Breda was formed around the Benedictine monastery of Sant Salvador, whose church was consecrated in 1068 and is still today the parish church. Of note is the Lombard Romanesque bell tower, which is 32 meters high. Similarly preserved and attached to the church is the north wing of the cloister from the 13th and 14th centuries and, a few meters away, the courtyard of the 15th century abbey.
Other places of interest are the church of Santa Maria, former parish church, the hermitage of Santa Anna with a magnificent view over the village, the Cultural Center Els Forns, a former clay workshop, and the Museum Josep Aragay, dedicated to the dissemination of the work of this 19th century artist.
It is also worth mentioning Montsoriu Castle, which although not located within the municipality of Breda, presides over it and is a faithful observer from its privileged position.
The exceptional natural environment invites visitors to walk or cycle along the many paths through the lovely woods to reach the hills and peaks, which offer magnificent views.
The gastronomy of the area, based on local products, is a complement that will not disappoint those who are looking for simple but highest quality cuisine.
And on Sundays you can enjoy, as a family, Breda's open-air market with local products and those of the neighboring regions.
