Merrylands is a great neighbourhood and is relatively cheaper. Down the road outside there are local supermarkets that sell a variety of ethnic foods. They also sell a variety of low priced goods such as fruits and vegetables. There are many takeaway restaurants and restaurants. Some of my favourities include Kabul House, Burgerville and X-tra Cheese Bakery, but there are so many cosmopolitan restaurants, you don't really need to go elsewhere.

Merrylands train station has trains that connect with all over Sydney. A good APP to download while in Sydney is Tripview which has real time train data but also has bus times aswell. You can choose from which suburb to other suburb you will go to and then find your nearest bus stops and go from there. The 804 is a bus that goes from right outside the place and goes directly to Parramatta station in 10 minutes. There are other busses too but I cannot recommend them all as it depends on your destination.
