Our Victorian Gem House is located in East London, Barking, just off the High Street, 5 mins from the Underground Station. When we saw it first time, we were in awe with its quaint style, especially some original features We fell in love with it and bought it on the spot. When you open the door, you enter a quiet, atmospheric space where you don't hear any noise from the outside. You come here to work and rest, 40mins tube ride from the city of London or 11 mins on the overground train! The house comes from 1885 and has been modernised many times to offer comfortable accommodation. There are three levels (ground floor, first floor, and the loft where we have our private quarter), two family bathrooms and a WC next to the kitchen, where the old 'broom' storage must have been in the old times. There are two reception rooms (one used as an office) and it has a very fast Wi-Fi It is an old house, so it squeeks and speaks and wants our attention. We love looking after it, but it is a lot of work and it never ends! Recently, we have renovated the staircase and retrieved the old wooden floors on the first floor, and we found a coin from the 19th century under the plank! We believe the house was built for the members of clergy or some richer merchants. It has a round mini turret on the roof, and there is another house like this six doors down from us. It looks like a purposeful design of two bigger Victorian houses with classical terraced ones in between. We are still searching for more information about the whole street which might have been part of the old Abbey and it is named after a saint 😇 I am an accredited coach and creative therapist, so if you wanted to book coaching sessions with me during your stay, let me know in advance and I can help you with personal and professional issues

This was the first time my friend and I came to the UK. We were warmly welcomed by the hosts, Marta and Matthew, whose house is a cozy little place that feels like home. Marta and Matthew have not only given us lots of valuable advice about the UK but have also been happy to share their culture and customs with us. They have shown a keen interest in our culture and have given us a warm sense of friendship and open-mindedness. Also, their two cats were so cute that we couldn't help but play with them. Overall, our stay was unforgettable, with Marta and Matthew's hospitality warming us up and the cultural exchange enriching us. If you plan a trip to the UK, don't miss out on this cozy accommodation option!
We stayed at Marta’s place for a month and it was an incredibly satisfying experience. Marta and Matthew make sure that you always feel at home. The house is a very cosy space, feels just like home. 10/10 would recommend to stay here if anyone is planning to visit Barking soon.
This is definitely London’s best keep secret. In reasonable price range you are getting exceptional stay experience with a quality to be compared to best multi-star hotels. We (two adults and one 11 years old son) have been there couple of times – both long term and short term stays. And definitely we will come back. There are two separate bedrooms, a 100% private bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen (oven, air fryer, microwave, washing machine, coffee machine ect), living room (dining table, tv) and a cinema room solely for the guest disposal. The hosts have separate floor where they live, so in practice you have whole house for you. And the lovely garden as well, so you can have dinner in the garden or in the living room depending on the weather. The hosts are super flexible and will help you in everything with a smile and very high standards of kindness. Welcome pack contains many towels and toiletries. You can have unlimited sheets, towels, ect. Cleaning service when needed

The area is busy, many grocery shops near by: Lild, ASDA, Tesco where we shop. It is a super diverse area, undergoing regeneration, with a colourful street market, traditional English breakfast cafs, and fruit and vegetables from all the continents sold from the stalls in the High Street.
The best way to get to our house is via the Underground, very easy to get to from any Tube station in London as long as you hop on the District Line or Hammersmith and City Line or a fast C2C overground train. If you come by car, you will park in the street, outside of the house free of charge, but you need to notify us in the advance, so we can issue an electronic car parkpermit for your stay.

I am an expert in diversity and wellbeing, currently working at the London Fire Brigade, where I produce new Inclusion strategies. My husband is a lecturer in Film at the London University. We make documentary films together, and we are both committed to promoting neurodiversity and creativity, helping learners and professionals fulfill their talents.
