Our neighbourhood feels like a village street. It is located next to the river Zaan and a 2-minute walk takes you to the water. It is a quiet neighbourhood, but you can walk to the centre of Zaandam within 10 minutes. We made a special Zaandam tour for our guests to show them around.
Another option is to stroll along the Zaan river to the Hem terrain, a former military complex that is now being developed for living, hospitality and culture. You will find there a.o. the Museum for Humanity, restaurant Lab-44 and a panoramic view over the Noordzee canal, which connects the harbour of Amsterdam to the North Sea.

Zaandam is a neighbouring town of Amsterdam. Here are our travel recommendations how to get to our house from several destinations.
From Schiphol Airport:
• We recommend to take an Uber, which costs 35-50 euro, depending on time and day. For two people this is the best price/travel time quality.
• When you prefer public transport you can take the train to Zaandam or Amsterdam Sloterdijk and then a bus to our house. Let us know when you arrive and we will provide you with the right travel schedule. Travel time will be approx. an hour.
From Amsterdam Central Station:
• Take the metro 52 to Amsterdam Noord
• Jump off at Noorderpark (1 stop)
• Take bus 391 to Zaanse Schans
• Jump off at bus stop ‘Vijfhoek’ and walk to our house
• Travel time will be approx. 50 minutes.
From Amsterdam Sloterdijk:
• Take bus 395 to Zaandam ZMC
• Jump off at bus stop Vijver
• Take bus 111 to Zaandam Station
• Jump off at bus stop ‘Vijfhoek’ and walk to our house
• Travel time will be approx. 25-30 minutes.
Walking from bus stop Vijfhoek to our house :
• Cross the street at the traffic lights
• Walk straight ahead on the Pieter Jelles Troelstralaan
• After 300 meters, after the bridge, go left to the Zuiddijk.
• You will find us at number 351 after 100 meters.
How to go to Amsterdam?
The first option is to take the above mentioned route with bus 391 and metro 52. The advantage is that metro 52 brings you superfast to several stops in the city.
The fastest way to go to Amsterdam Central Station is to bike to Zaandam station (12 mins) and then take the train to Amsterdam Central (12 minutes). We have two city bikes, which you can use to stroll in and around Zaandam, and to bike to the station. You can use the bikes in joint agreement with us, without further costs. In the centre of Amsterdam are plenty opportunities to rent a bike.
We often get the question, ‘Can I bike to Amsterdam?’ When you bring your own sport bike you can ride to the NDSM area in Amsterdam North in 30-40 minutes, depending on the wind and your condition. From there you can take the free ferry to Central Station. That’s a lovely boat ride with great views on the city, absolutely recommended. PS you can also go to NSDM by bus 391…
Travelling by car
We are lucky to have a free parking place on 50 meters walking from our house. When you would like to use the car during your stay please note that Amsterdam has very high parking rates. We recommend to drive to metro station Noord (15 mins), park there for 6,00 euro per day and take the metro 52 to the Amsterdam city centre (5-10 mins).
