Westport is the perfect home base for your Adirondack experience. The town is picturesque, welcoming and extremely safe. Those who live here cannot wait to share all of the reasons they love life in the Adirondack Park, so don’t be afraid to strike up a conversation with a local!
The Greenhouse is conveniently located walking distance to the Westport Main Street, the shores of Lake Champlain, and beautiful hiking, skiing and snowshoeing trails. The boat launch, Westport marina and rental shop are right downtown, and offer lake recreation for everyone. The town itself is composed of historical architecture, delicious restaurants, cute coffee shops and unique shopping destinations.
If you’re interested in exploring Vermont, the neighboring town of Essex is home to the Champlain ferry, and is a short 15 minute drive from the Greenhouse. Westport is also located conveniently close to the Lake Champlain bridge, which is an alternate scenic route into the Green Mountains. Multiple swimming holes, rivers, beaches and waterfalls are within a 10-20 minute drive of the house. The town is dotted with CATS trails, which are accessible to all levels and perfect for walking, skiing and running. For those looking for more vigorous hiking trails, Keene, Keene Valley and the start of the High Peaks is 25-30 minutes away. There are nearby climbing opportunities indoors and out. In the winter the surrounding area offers ice climbing, ice fishing, ice skating, cross country skiing and snow mobile trails. For those of you looking for downhill skiing, the house is only 40 minutes from White Face Mountain in Lake Placid.
In addition, the area is rich with organic farms and farmer’s markets. There are opportunities to see live music year round. There’s even an active mountain biking population! Basically there’s something for everyone. I could go on and on, so if you’re looking for something specific just ask:)

If you plan to travel outside of Westport you are going to want a car. Traffic is minimal and parking is super easy. Alternative means of travel that visitors enjoy are via boat, paddle, bike or foot. Uber is really not an option.
