This was a unique lodging experience. Felipe built this little house on a cliff overlooking the beautiful city of Cuenca. It's like a studio apartment that sleeps up to four people. It has a large single room which includes the kitchen, dining area, and sleeping areas. It has a separate bathroom with a sink, toilet, and shower. The kitchen has new granite counters, storage cabinets, a sink,and a stove. There was no oven or refrigerator, but we got along fine without those. The best part is a large covered balcony built like an "L" around two sides of the house. It has a couple of hammocks and some benches. We spent a lot of time on the balconies looking over the city (beautiful red roofs in the daytime and twinkling lights at night). It's a bird's-eye view that looks north to the city center with its 400 year old cathedrals. It also affords you a wonderful panoramic view of the mountains. We loved the sunrises and sunsets. Cons: There is traffic noise from the highway at the base of the cliff where the casita sits (at night it became kind of a "white noise" after a while but it took some getting used to--we listened to music with headphones much of the time we were on the balcony). The stove is an induction stove so you have to be sure to use steel or iron pans. There is a long steep dirt driveway that the taxis won't take you up so you will do a little walking up and down the hill, which can be a bit muddy when it rains. Pros: The balcony, the view, and the sense of camping with amenities near the city made this a unique and happy experience for us. It's built in a forest of eucalyptus trees and is very green. There is an outdoor fire pit which looked fun, although we didn't use it. Felipe was a very gracious host. He picked us up at the airport and took up up to the casita in his 4-wheel drive truck. He texted us regularly, using Whatsapp, to see if we needed anything. Overall we enjoyed our time here and would recommend it to other adventurers visiting Cuenca.
