The history of our village and our house:
The settlement of Apomarma has its roots in Minoan Crete. From the sources of the waters of the mountain Rouvas, which bears its ancient name, come the gurgling waters that Minos wanted to transport to Faistos to supply them as his summer palace. The workers who had camped at the construction site of the present-day Settlement 'Apomarma' and who were building the aqueduct from Rouvas to Phaistos, in the course of the project, the Phaistos marbles ran out and the construction site ordered a supply of marbles, but by the time the new shipment of marbles arrived to continue the project, the workers had already established a small settlement, not very different from the present-day settlement of Apomarma.Essentially the workers left marble "Apomarma", this as a fact gave the name over the years to the present Settlement. It is worth mentioning that in the area of the Settlement there are ancient remains of the aforementioned Minoan aqueduct. Over the centuries, residents from the surrounding villages began to cultivate the farms they had, as well as the pastures in the wider area. This led to the emergence of the settlement.
But at the same time the trade route was of great interest for the transport of goods from the north to the south and vice versa and the need to serve the travellers to and from the city of Heraklion because of the "difficult passage", (the plain between mountains to the upper root and from there to the [Hani tou Yatraki] through the wild steep morphology and the dangers that passers-by ran from bandits, resulted in the creation of inns known as Hania. Of all these Hania the most famous for the time was the Hani of Yatraki. This was where the exchange of mail bags used to take place and the changing of guards for convicts being transferred from county to county. The "Yatraki's Hani", served as a magistrate's inn and animal stable. Today one can see the lodge from the [Yatraki's Hani ] in its restored form, on the main street, which is the square of the settlement and the animal keeper's stable where the lodging area is located.
