Windbrake House is located in the charming village of Alverstoke, Gosport, close to Portsmouth with Gunwharf Keys and the Historic Dockyard. It is within metres of Stokes Bay enjoying some views of the Solent and the Isle of Wight. A large beautiful house built in 1936 with links to the Mulberry Harbours, Operation Overlord and the D-day landings and is just off the beach at Stokes Bay. This house is set up to sleep 10 adults and 3/4 children, using two made up temporary beds or 12 adults. It has a spacious open-plan kitchen/dining room that's a perfect space for gathering a reunion of friends or extended family. It has a south facing garden with sofa style seating for a summer's day/evening with a side gate and access to the neighbouring park and the seafront. The lounge has a log burning cassette and a large flat-screen TV with Netflix and Apple TV. Free off-road parking for six cars. Bedrooms: 5 bedrooms all with either en-suite or private bathrooms. Two beds are huge and three are kingsize (5ft). Sea views from three of the bedrooms. Bedroom 6 has one double bed ( & one single bed can be made up ) who are sharing a bathroom with one other bedroom. We also have one put up bed which can go in one of the bedrooms. So I recommend 10 adults + 4 children, or 12 adults. Facilities: The large dining table seats up to 12 people comfortably and for any extras we have the kitchen bar with bar stools adjacent to the table. The kitchen is fully equipped with 2 ovens, a microwave and dishwasher and all the usual kitchen gadgets as well as crockery and serving dishes for large group meals. We also have a games room with a fooseball table and boxed games for all.... When Windbrake House is not rented, it is our home, so there is a small number of personal possessions around, which means it has luxury furniture and beds etc. (ie. not just a holiday home). Please ask to see how we can accommodate the whole family/friends if you are not sure as it is a very flexible home....

We had a great time at Windbrake House - beautiful house, beautiful area, just right for our holiday with children and grandchildren - plenty of room for the 12 of us and very good for the children with games room and large garden (not to forget the impressive palm tree!) .It was a home from home and Sally and her husband were very helpful with any problems we had.

This place was great for a big get together. So much space, for cars, people and food. All the facilities you need, lovely surroundings (inside and out) and literally 2 minutes to the beach. Sally was a great host too, helping out whenever we had a question and being quite generous too. We now love Gosport and cant wait to come back to this house.

Alverstoke is a charming small village in the borough of Gosport. It has a village One-Stop open until late, a Post Office, village pub (no food), a Chinese restaurant and take-away, an excellent Fish & Chip shop, hairdressers and gift shop. It takes 10 minutes to walk to the village.
There is an excellent bistro called 'Pebbles' on the front at Stokes Bay which serves home cooked food at reasonable prices with big portions! Recommend booking in advance as not large and gets very busy. Please ask for details of other recommendations.
There is always something to see at Stokes Bay as the busy stretch of water, the Solent, between the Isle of Wight and us is used by all manner of boats, ships and water sports including Cowes Week, Naval reviews, cruise liners, America's Cup, P1 Power Boat racing, Fast Net departure and American aircraft carriers to name a few!
Also on Stoke's bay are two cafe's as well as Pebbles Wine Bar and a free Splash Park for children to safely run in and out of the water funnels etc. There is also a leisure centre and ice-rink a short drive away.
It takes 7 mins drive to Gosport where there is a long-stay car park (£4) and with a return passenger ferry ticket across Portsmouth Harbour you can soon spend a quality day at either the Naval Dockyard or at Gunwharf Quays, a retail outlet with many designer stores, restaurants, bowling alley and multi-screen cinema and Portsmouth Spinnaker Tower both located close to the ferry terminal.
From Portsmouth Harbour there are fabulous views to be enjoyed on a promenade to Southsea and Old Portsmouth where you can enjoy excellent pubs beside the Fish Market and Ben Ainsley Racing training centre whilst watching the fishing boats or catch the hovercraft to the Isle of Wight.
From the Portsmouth side you can also take the car or go as a passenger to the Isle of Wight with Wightlink Ferries or take a harbour tour as part of the Dockyard visit or from Gunwharf Quays.

Our nearest train stations are either Portsmouth Harbour or Fareham. There are buses to and from Gosport and Fareham passing close to the house.
