The apartment occupies the ground floor of a grand villa built in 1903. It was renovated in 2022-23 and retains many period features. Guests have access to a large communal garden with views of the lake and mountains. The villa is located in Somana village, part of the Lake Como town of Mandello del Lario. Somana is popular with hikers as walks lead directly from the village. Mandello is less “discovered” compared to other lake towns and has a beach, bars, restaurants and ferry services. The villa has architectural and decorative features of the “Liberty” style popular in Italy during the early 20th century. It was divided into apartments in the 1980s. Our family bought the ground floor apartment in 2020. We have spent the past few years renovating and made efforts to preserve or restore the original features, for instance the tiled flooring, the stained glass in the entrance and the old doors, etc. We installed a new kitchen and new bathrooms (one is a shower room and one has a bathtub). The bedrooms are simple but comfortable. Two have double beds and the third is a single bedroom. In the "nook" under the old central staircase there is a desk for working with Wi-Fi. A separate service room has a washing machine and dryer. The garden is communal and shared with the other apartment owners.

Das war ein wunderbarer Aufenthalt in einer einzigartigen Unterkunft. Alleine die Aussicht ist das Geld schon wert. Mit viel Liebe zum Detail wurde das Appartement renoviert und eingerichtet. Die Kommunikation mit Martino verlief absolut problemlos. Vielen Dank für eure Gastfreundschaft!

Ein wirklich schönes Haus. Perfekt eingerichtet, wohnlich und modern mit Liebe zum Detail (und tollen Bildern). Man merkt, dass hier viel Arbeit rein gesteckt wurde! Es fehlt an nichts, sich die Küche ist top eingerichtet und es gab sogar eine Auswahl an Gewürzen und eine Bialetti. Die Lage ist, trotz der Hangsituation, gut mit dem Auto zu erreichen. Wir haben immer direkt vor dem Haus geparkt, dort gibt es etwa 10 kostenlose Parkplätze + eine überdachte Parkgarage. In der Hauptsaison könnte es hier ggf. etwas enger werden. Der Garten lädt zum verweilen ein. Wir haben noch Liegestühle vermisst, aber darum wollte sich der Gastgeber bald kümmern. Wir hatten unsere Rennräder dabei und haben einige Touren rund um den Comer See unternommen. Sehr zu empfehlen ist der Anstieg zur Madonna del Ghisallo mit dem Radmuseum. Wir kommen gerne wieder!

This beautiful villa was a joy to stay in! Just far enough away from tourist areas but easy to access the tourist areas when we wanted to! It is beautifully renovated and we highly recommend staying there!!

The apartment is located in Somana, a village just up the mountainside from Mandello del Lario, one of the larger towns on the eastern side of Lake Como.
Somana is perfect for hikers of all levels wanting to explore the surrounding countryside or mountains. Parts of the village are very old with stone houses and little streets typical of the region. It has a church and a couple of small bars/restaurants. Note you can clearly hear the church bells from the apartment, they ring from 7.30am until 9pm.
Mandello has all the services you need: a supermarket, post office, banks, pharmacies, etc. It also has many restaurants, bars/cafes, a beach and ferry services to other parts of Lake Como.

Although Mandello del Lario has a train station with connections to Milan, Lecco and Varenna we highly recommend guests have a car.
