• Peyrusse-le-Roc (9km): In an isolated place in Aveyron, south-east of Figeac and north-east of Villefranche-de-Rouergue, Peyrusse-le-Roc is a small town of a few hundred inhabitants . The location and size may suggest that few visitors arrive here, but the position of the village and the many sites of interest make the trip very worthwhile: the village is among the hidden gems of the region.
• Belcastel (27km): A beautiful village surrounded by the very pretty wooded slopes along the banks of the river Aveyron, with an 11th century castle dominating the village from its rocky outcrop: although it is small Belcastel is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France and highly worth a visit.
• Capdenac (15km): A few kilometers south of Figeac, the village of Capdenac is divided into two parts - Capdenac Gare and Capdenac-le-Haut. It is the second of these, on a hill overlooking the Lot valley and the town of Figeac, which is of most interest to visitors and is now listed as one of the 'most beautiful villages in France'.
• Figeac (20km): Figeac is an important medieval town in the Lot department and the Midi-Pyrénées region, on the river Célé. In the city there is a vast and interesting historical center, dating in part from the 9th century, and the city has kept many houses and small palaces dating from the 13th to the 16th century.
• Bournazel (17km): Bournazel is a small village in the French department of Aveyron with ancient origins. The village is pleasant to explore, and the main attraction here is Bournazel Castle and its gardens have undergone major renovations in recent years.
• Conques (36km): Conques is one of the most beautiful villages in France and approximately 30 kilometers east of Figeac. Conques is on the edge of the Dourdou Gorges, in a beautiful setting surrounded by mountains and forests. The approach from the south follows a very beautiful part of the river.
• Villefranche-de-Rouergue (35km): Villefranche-de-Rouergue is a bastide town in the Aveyron department, with its origins in the 13th century: the town was founded in 1252 by the Count of Toulouse, Alphonse de Poitiers. The town is unusual among 13th century bastide towns in southwest France in that it is not heavily commercialized and still remains a typical French town. Villefranche-de-Rouergue also retains its original layout, with a central square and church surrounded by a grid of parallel streets.
• Rodez (46km): The peaceful town of Rodez, the prefecture of Aveyron, has more for tourists to see and do than you might expect at first sight. It has an important cathedral and several other interesting historical buildings in its medieval center.
• Albi (100km): Best known as the capital of the Tarn department, the bustling medieval town of Albi is a fascinating and beautiful town, with many buildings of historical interest to see. A visit to Albi will also be interesting if you are intrigued by the history of the Cathars as the town was an integral player during this period. The red brick architecture, medieval buildings and river views in Albi combine to make it one of the favorite towns of the French.
• Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (68km): The charming village of Saint-Cirq-Lapopie is classified among the 'most beautiful villages in France. The narrow cobbled streets contain a pretty mix of medieval houses, some half-timbered and some in the yellow stone typical of the region.
• Rocamadour (64km): Rocamadour, despite its small size, is amazing for its location, built on the edge of a cliff, with the Alzou river lying below at the bottom of the gorge, and the houses and monuments are all beautifully preserved and renovated. Located in the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park, Rocamadour receives more than a million visitors, tourists and pilgrims each year.
