This cabin is absolutely beautiful and has everything you need. We enjoyed the peace and tranquillity surrounding this home. The views of the fjord are spectacular! Hosts were always available via messaging to help with any questions. The view from everywhere inside the home is amazing!!! There are two decks and we enjoyed spending time on both. The lower level deck is completely tucked in and it’s a very cozy place to be in the rain! We look forward to spending time in this cabin in Viddal on our next trip to Norway. Highly recommend!
Great and clean cabin with amazing view and the host was so helpful and kind Highly recommended
It is hard to describe this house in words. Everything about it is amazing. It sits on top of a private mountain with more than spectacular views of Hjørundfjorden. During our Norway Fjords trip, we covered the Geiranger - Trollstigen fjords route. But this house was the highlight of the trip. If you get a chance, visit and have a relaxing holiday enjoying incredible views from this house. Highly recommended.
Viddal – Nordangsdalen - Øye – Sæbø – Ørsta/Volda – Viddal.
Drive to Grodås on E39 and road no 40 up the valley Hornindal. Before you reach Hellesylt you take the road 655 down the dramatic valley Norangsdalen. Take a look at the spectacular small very old summer farm houses, Urasetra and Stavsbergsetra, embedded in the nature avoiding the avalanches. Take also a look at the Union Hotel Øye, a historical hotel from about year 1900 with many notabilities visiting during the century. Then you pass Urke and take the ferry to Sæbø, normally free of charge. At Sæbø there are possibilities for a meal and a sauna and bathing/cooling in the fjord. From Sæbø you go up the valley Bondalen, a good river for fishing salmon, and go further to either Sæbø or Volda, eventually for some shopping, before returning to Viddal via E39.
Viddal – Geiranger – Stryn – Viddal.
Drive to Grodås and Hellesylt, take the ferry to Geiranger and drive up the valley to Strynefjell and return via Stryn. Visit the Jostedalsbreen Nasjonnalparksenter in Oppstryn. OBS! Geiranger is very crowded in high season.
Mountain hikes on foot and on skies
The district has several possibilities for spectacular hikes in the mountains, both summer and winter. We refer to DNT, Den Norske Turistforening, The Norwegian Trekking Association, or the local Sunnmore-dnt for an overview and will here only mention some relatively easy trips in the close vicinity in the summer time. The area has hikes for all degrees of difficulties and skills. Be aware of the high risk for avalanches in winter time that requires special knowledge.
Viddal – Bjørke – Tussevatn – return.
At Bjørke there is a large water fall, now reduced because of the Power station. Up in the valley above the water fall there is a large lake between spectacular mountains in the area.
Drive to Bjørke and through the village up along the river. Take the road to the left after crossing the bridge. After 3-400 m you park the car and follow the track to the right marked with red T, the sign for DNT mentioned above, upwards until you reach the lake, about 2 +2 hours walk.
Viddal – Viddalssetra – return
Start walking from the cabin down to the fjord and cross the bridge over the river. Follow the road upwards the valley. After a while you come to a power station in the river. Hold to the left of the river side and continue until you reach a flat plain surrounded of mountains. If you are lucky you’ll find the ruins of the summer farms at the river. Take the old road back if you walked the new up, about 2+2 hours walk.
