A little about the Saga Island:
The Island Commune Leka, The County of Trøndelag's northernmost municipality, has a very varied landscape - from forests and mountains in Gutvik to the blistered islets and skerries in Hortavær and Sklinna. At Leka, people have lived for more than 10,000 years, and Sagaøya can offer cave paintings in Solsemhula, Norway's largest shipwreck hut Herlaugshaugen, and Skeisnesset cultural trail. The municipal weapon symbolizes Ørnerovet - which occurred in 1932 (a child being flown away by a large eagle). They also wanted to bring in the red-yellow serpentine mountains on the outer side of the island - which makes the island a geological remark. Mainland along the Norwegian coast goes through Lekafjorden. Gutvik on the mainland side is known for its caves, the coastal graveyard in Sønndalslia and the harbor of the French hijackingvessel 'LéEnfant de la Patrie' who sunk there in 1798. The main commercial livelihoods in Leka are agriculture and fish farming. Good fishing opportunities and distinctive nature attract many visitors here.
