A nice cozy home in a quiet and peaceful neighborhood. The host was extremely kind, welcoming, and willing to answer any questions we had about our rental, the area, and other parts of the country. The place was really clean and all the utilities inside of the home were easy to access and use. The laundry machines including the dryer were definitely a plus especially if you have small children and need to use it often. The home definitely felt like a real home away from home. Also, there’s a public bus that comes by the home every 10 minutes for an easy way to go in and out of the neighborhood. However, we ended up taking the taxi service most of the time because it is so cheap in Korea. The taxi is also one call away and can come in front of the home within 5 minutes. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and plan on contacting this host for future trips back to Korea.
Bukjeong Village, located in Seongbuk-dong, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, is known as the last old neighborhood in Seoul. With a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of the 1970s, this place preserves the charm of the past. People cultivate small gardens and share the crops with their neighbors. At the end of the winding alleyways, it feels as if old childhood friends are beckoning you to come and play. As you explore the peaceful and clean alleyways, you'll be amazed by the residents' dedication to preserving and maintaining the village.
Perhaps due to its picturesque scenery, Bukjeong Village has become a gathering place for young artists. Unique galleries and workshops infuse the village with vibrancy and vitality. Implicitly, this place has managed to stay away from gentrification.
The surrounding area of the village boasts various attractions. Simujang, where the famous poet Han Yong-un lived, Gil Sangsa, where the Buddhist monk Beopjeong wrote his "No-Ownership" manifesto, Gansong Art Museum, a renowned art museum that needs no introduction, Suyeonsanbang, the birthplace of novelist Lee Tae-jun transformed into a café, Seongnakwon, one of the three famous Joseon Dynasty villas, the Korean Furniture Museum, considered the most beautiful museum in Korea, and the unique and trendy Our Old Stone Museum, known for its unconventional composition and interior design.
Geographically, Bukjeong Village is adjacent to Jongno-gu. It is divided by Myeongnyundong and the city wall, offering excellent accessibility to the heart of Seoul. There are two village buses available, one heading to Hansung University Entrance and the other passing through Daehak-ro and heading to Jongno 5-ga. If you walk a little further to the back gate of Sungkyunkwan University, you can also take a village bus to Insadong, passing through Samcheong-dong.
Passing through Samcheong Tunnel, where Samcheonggak is located, will lead you directly to Samcheong-dong, offering convenient access to the Blue House (Cheongwadae) and Gyeongbokgung Palace.
1. You can conveniently use the Seongbuk 03 village bus from the bus stop right in front of the accommodation. The bus arrives every 7 minutes and will take you to Hansung University Entrance within 10 minutes.
2. At the Myeongnyundong bus stop, which is a 7-minute walk and 400 meters away, you can take the Jongno 08 village bus. It will take you to Daehak-ro in less than 15 minutes and to Jongno 5-ga Station in about 20 minutes.
3. If you walk for about 15 minutes to the back gate of Sungkyunkwan University, you can take the Jongno 02 village bus. It passes through Samcheong-dong and heads to Insadong.
4. You can also take a taxi to reach the destination.
