Compose your greatest odes to the sea while luxuriating in this ocean-view expansive lodge on a private 2000-acre Estate. Saltwater Chronicles, Dunskey's Estate most ambitious project and crown jewel: 3 bedrooms, 3 ensuite bathrooms with soaking tub and rain shower. Perched atop the Estate's fairy glen, where bluebells cloak the ground like scented eiderdown, and the Scottish cragged coastline soars into the wide open skies, this maximalist lodge may awaken you to your own soulful chronicles. Begin the journey via a secluded and private tree-lined path to the edge of the beach, whereupon an acre of enclosed wild garden and woodland will greet you. Manicured lawn and matured woodland are all yours to freewheel, including a handwoven hammock under the shade of beech trees. The piece de resistance is the spectacular and lighted private dock that nestles into the hillside, casting a magnificent view of the wild sea, endless sunsets, and the forever green rolling hills of Southwestern Scotland. Two secluded beaches are steps away from this lodge. Port Mora, or Sandeel Bay, features a tranquil cove with sandy beach and a murmuring waterfall. At low tide, venture far out on the sand and discover wondrous aquatic life, including urchins, eels, starfish and playful octopus. On the other side, Port Kale provides two sheltered pebble beaches and small rock formations, where hours can be spent playing house, stone-skipping, clambering and collecting seaglass. Our resident seal, whose full name is Tidal Serge the Dunskey Seal of Approval, bobs about in the bay awaiting your admiration. When the tide is out, be sure to wade to the rocks and harvest pepperdulse seaweed, which tastes like oceanic truffles! Inside the lodge you'll find the large living room with our personal collection of art that has taken a decade to collect and curate. Italianate leather curve sofa, blush pink velvet loveseat, and a vintage rocking chair will make it challenging to find a favorite seat. The modern kitchen is incredibly well-equipped, with a sustainable and particle-free cooking on the induction hob. We have here blond wide-plank oak floorboards with radiant heating underfoot. Taken together with bay windows of magnificent views of the coast, it may be tempting to snuggle up inside all the livelong days. The first bedroom showcases shades of pale corals and resplendence, bringing that wild Scottish golden-hour lights indoor. Handmade artisan Gustavian bed, dressing tables, and a wondrous mural of the tree of life brings forth a splendorous retreat. The second bedroom is the color of the sea, with pops of colors from accented birds in both a water-haven mural and artwork. Two Italian canopy beds are in the third bedroom, with gleaming turquoise accent colors and murals in a pink-hue background. All of our bedrooms feature finest mattresses, crisp high thread count linens, and luxuriously soft bedding. Each bathroom features rain shower, soaking tub, and heated towel rails. The cobblestone courtyard includes a corner outdoor bathtub where you can take in that glass of champagne alongside your favorite novel, while the sun slips into the sea. The BBQ grill is at the ready alongside reclaimed wood dining tables and chairs. Most days, we promise you'll have curious visitors, from soft-footed prancing deers to chattering sea birds and tottering hedgehogs.
We stayed at Saltwater Chronicles for my birthday with some friends, their young child and two dogs. I can honestly say that this place was amazing. It is hard to find as the postcode does not take you directly there - make sure you read the instructions on the booklet! But the place was so beautiful and neat, the surrounding area was incredibly peaceful. The views from the house were spectacular and we also managed to see a seal in the bay! There are some amazing walks in the local area including up to the lochs on the estate. Ali was really responsive to our messages and helpful with any queries. Will be coming back soon!
We stayed at saltwater chronicles for our mini-moon, and we were not disappointed. The views and cottage were stunning. We loved how secluded and private it was. Access to the private deck, beaches and headland were incredible. We had five resident deer that we could see in the field next to us at different points, along with other wildlife on the estate. The cottage has a digital guide detailing exactly how to access Wi-Fi and how to get to the cottage, read and screenshot this before arriving as we didn’t have signal in the cottage itself. We bumped into a few friendly staff members who asked how we were and if we needed anything when we were out on walks. Our only regret was not booking longer. Fabulous staff, location and cottage 5/5. We will be back for years to come!
A great addition to the Dunskey offering.. Spacious newly refurbished accommodation in arguably one the best spota on the estate. Possibly a few things outside in garden to finish to make most of the outside space/setting, which am sure will be tackled out of main season. We have stayed before elsewhere on the estate but this was a step up. The lodge is a bit of a trek to get to (we knew where it was from staying on estate before) and you wouldn't want to do it in a sports car, but it was worth it. We look forward to returning again to the estate.
You're not simply staying in a Castle Estate: you are staying on one of the most beautiful spots on the planet. Dunskey Estate boasts two waterfalls, two lochs, and three beaches, with the most magnificent walks along the craggy Scottish coastline. This pleasure ground will be completely yours to explored, including a private woodland garden and a maze. You will have the time of your life, I promise.
Two lochs nestle into the hills and rhododendron banks. Wander along the glen walk past a rushing waterfall, and a babbling brook, to the two beaches to spot dolphins and seals. Dunskey Golf Course and the picturesque Portpatrick Harbour is two minutes away. Fishing expeditions from the beaches or on our two lochs are available.
A car is highly recommended.

We are a small but mighty team with our hearts set on sharing with you the most glorious hidden gem in this rural corner of Scotland: Dunskey, a 2000-acre estate by the sea, where world-class heritage meets modern splendour, surrounded by secret gardens and endless wonders. Everything we do is rooted in our three values: compassion, innovation, and transformation. We strongly believe that the first steps towards spectacular hospitality is taking care of our team and environments. Here, you'll meet the incredible Dunskey stewards who sincerely wish to share with you the joy, beauty, and warmth in all that we do. Most significantly, you will find extraordinary thoughtfulness in every moment of your journey here. We are also a feministic company with a laser focus on sustainability. We use re-fillable products wherever possible. Our heating system is nearly at 100% sourced from renewable energy. We compost 100% of our food waste, and our water comes from a fresh spring. We continuously strive to do more and do better. Our ongoing other projects include policy advocacy in immigration and anti-human trafficking, working on turning out the votes in America and fighting against voter suppression laws. Seeking social and racial justice is a constant, though sometimes painful, anchor in our lives. We would like everyone to read the two novels, The Overstory, by Richard Powers, and, Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson. When not heartened by the possibility of collective action to address climate change, we like to cook a ton-load of Vietnamese beef noodle soup and plot the next magic mushroom trail on the Estate.
