We are both Northern California natives and have lived in Berkeley for 27 years. We have two kids in college. We love Northern California - the beauty of the ocean, Bay, forests and parks, the climate, the culture, the ethnic diversity. Susan loves to hike, garden (especially tomatoes), read, cook and learn new things. She enjoys meeting new people and speaks fluent Italian, having lived in Rome for five years when she was in her 20's. She and Fred love international cuisine, red wine and sitting out on their deck relaxing. Fred is a business owner and musician who enjoys getting together with family and friends, going to theater and concert performances and rooting for the Giants! We really enjoy inviting others to stay at our house - guests have come from all over the country and world - as far away as Asia, Europe, Latin America, and as close as Sacramento and all locales up and down California. We learn a lot from our guests and aspire to treat everyone with respect and kindness. It's a treat to have you here and we want you to have the best possible experience in our neighborhood and home. We are true stewards of the idea of offering radical hospitality to others! We have stayed at Airbnb's in Oregon, New York City, Paris and all over England - it's such an easy, affordable way to travel - oh, and travel is something that we are both passionate about. As hosts we will be happy to meet you and assist you so that you have the best possible stay in Berkeley and the Bay Area. We know San Francisco, the East Bay and Marin county really well and have lots of recommendations of places to visit, especially if this is your first trip to our area. Our safe, self-contained unit is attached to our house on a separate floor, with a separate entrance so you'll have lots of privacy and quiet and can come and go as you like. Berkeley is a true food mecca and there are many great restaurants, bistros and cafes within walking distance. Our house is situated close to UC Berkeley in a quiet, tree-lined residential neighborhood. We are also walking distance to BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit), a metro line that will take you into downtown San Francisco, shops the Ferry Building, museums, beautiful San Francisco Bay, AT&T Park and more.
