If you want to feel like you are staying in the location of a Jane Austen novel, Redmayne House is the place for you! Cosy meets luxury in this Grade II listed Georgian Townhouse in the most popular town of Kirkby Stephen. Sleeping up to 17 guests, Redmayne House is ideal for a multi-generational getaway, corporate retreat or intimate family wedding. This three-storey, character townhouse is packed with original features, as well as all the added extras necessary for modern living. Before you even enter Redmayne House, you will be blown away by the charming stone facade, with sash windows and a slate roof. Enveloped on all sides by a beautifully landscaped garden, you’ll already be choosing spots for your morning cuppa by the time you are unloading your bags. Through the front door, you will find a spacious hallway with stunning original tiles. To your left is a large dining room with an open fire, and to the right a cosy guest sitting room with a bay window and open fire – an ideal nook to tuck yourself away with a good book. To the right of the stairs leading to the first floor, your route to the back of the house goes through the snug/study. A door straight ahead opens onto a shaker-style country kitchen that would be the envy of any TV chef… Belfast sink, multiple oven options (great for cooking for large groups) and a large square kitchen island. Off the games room, featuring a pool table – great to keep the kids entertained. Take an external door to the left and follow the path around to some french doors to discover the secluded garden room, where you will find a hot tub, sofas and bbq overlooking a small garden. Back through the study and across the hallway is an elegant sitting room, which is the largest living area. A wood burner and enough seating for your whole group make this a great spot for a games evening. The first floor boasts four sumptuous bedrooms, all with en-suite and an additional toilet – meaning you will never need to queue! Up a further staircase, you will find a further four bedrooms, all benefitting from en-suites.
Fantastic house for a family get together, loved the quirkiness of the house and the children loved the games room and additional games and books were a bonus. So pleased we found this place at such short notice after being let down by another host.
If you’ve got a big group this is the perfect gathering point. Enough living space you can break off into groups but the main dining and living rooms and big enough to accommodate everyone. House was perfectly clean and is in an amazing location, right next to the pubs. You can squeeze plenty of cars on the drive too. Fenced off back garden for dog lovers
I used Redmayne House as a company to accommodate subcontractors working for us, myself and them all loved the place, its comfortable beds, multiple social areas and large kitchen made rest and recovery from night shifts easy. Something you can get in a noisy hotel. The place is well equipped for any user, I imagine large family gatherings and celebrations here would be unforgettable. We will be returning.
With Redmayne House’s phenomenal location, you could fill your entire stay without getting in your car. A fantastic combination of town and country, Kirby Steven itself is steeped in history and offers a good selection of bars, restaurants, independent shops and sights to visit. It’s also home to a heritage railway station, where you can enjoy a scenic steam engine trip on the historic Carlisle – Settle line. Local nature reserve, Smardale Gill, also offers stunning scenery with steep wooded slopes and views of open rolling countryside contrasting with the imposing viaduct. Visiting here can be combined with a longer walk that includes all four of the Eden Viaducts. Nestled at the heart of the Eden Valley, the town is between the North Pennines (with rolling hills, woodland and picturesque surroundings) the Yorkshire Dales National Park (with caves, waterfalls, iconic and historical towns and villages) and the Lake District National Park (with lakes, mountains and any number of tourist hotspots). 20 miles away is the market town of Kendal, known as the ‘gateway to the southern Lake District, and perfect for a day of shopping. From here you can easily access the popular tourist hotspots of Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere as well as take a cruise on the famous Windermere steamers. All in all, if you love the outdoors, you’re spoilt for choice!
