We had a wonderful time at Shen’s lovely house in Miaoli. There are 16 of my family and space was big enough for 20 people even more! I was worried about the low temperature during the Chinese New Year, and it was just fine and the host is helpful providing lots information in advance! Dr. Shen was so friendly and showed us great hospitality. He shared some interesting stories of his family and guests, also told some history of this house and environment. You must learn something new from him! Such an amazing experience! I would definitely stay here again, a true home from home stay.

Staying in LH cottage is more then a living only, Mr. Shen has full knowledge of the Society. And he and his wife gave us the warmest welcoming to Miaoli(Taiwan). We love staying in their Eco friendly house. All the water, vegetable,egg, rice, bread or even a cup of tea were harvested by their garden or a farm near by. Mr. Shen took our kids to pick up eggs and banana every morning. The nature is become our teacher. if you are looking a place where Is full of stories and adventures, LH cottage will be a good choice! We are looking forward to visit Mr. Shen again in the future.

1. Thank you Dr. Shen for your wonderful hospitality. The generosity in sharing your experiences, travel suggestions, and food were much appreciated. 2. The place is very suitable for cooking and the utensils are very complete. It is also just nice for the kids to experience nature, from collecting eggs, to planting and harvesting the vegetables. Then, we could cook the vegetables that we harvested. Satisfaction guaranteed! The sky here is full of stars, which we enjoyed looking at them. 3. Dr. Shen has this love and affection for Gongguang, Miaoli. We are influenced and now in love with this place as well! 4. Although we met him for the first time, we were treated like his friends and now we have indeed become good friends. We will definitely visit again. We strongly recommend this place to all friends and families with kids. Also, we recommend April’s firefly trip at this place!

Great location for nature-based exploration, within 30min to 90min of trails, hot-springs, amusement parks. Fantastic location to slow down. Collect fresh chicken eggs in the morning, fresh milk (cow and milk) delivered every day, and harvest organic vegetable within 5min walk. The host has fantastic local knowledge, but if you don’t speak Mandarin, budget for “lost-in-translation” cultural nuances, eg. the host errs on the conservative side re one’s ability to manage safety aspects of hiking trails. Outstanding hospitality aside, do note that the house is “work-in-progress”, and is suitable only for kids >9 years old, eg. no baby gate as house on 2 levels, open wires, fireplace with no grate, irregular hot water (ie. advise caution for children). Also, may not be suitable for those with breathing sensitivities - bottom floor room was moldy. Bedroom upstairs was completely fine - can sleep 7 in one room. The beddings are comfortable if you are used to tatami style sleeping. With advanced notice, the host may prepare some dinners, and it’s a good opportunity to try gentle versions of Taiwanese food. It’s rustic, and all things considered, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the stay 🌹 The host had a fantastic connection with the kids, and it’s a great family get-away 😊
