There is also a fantastic firework display at the end of the regatta that you can watch bobbing from our boat in the middle of the Meare. Beautiful home, amazing views. The boat is very fun. Home, garden and lake are even better than the photos make out
We had a lovely family gathering over Christmas at Lowlands. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and had everything we needed for preparing Christmas dinner! Within walking distance of the local pub ‘The Dolphin’ which does great food. We enjoyed sitting around the wood burning stove admiring the beautiful view over Thorpeness Mere. We had a very relaxing stay in this peaceful location. The three teenage boys had fun using the rowing boat!
Thorpeness is a village located just one mile north of Aldeburgh on the stunning Suffolk Heritage Coast. Developed as a private fantasy holiday village, Glen Ogilvie built the Country Club, golf course, tennis courts and an artificial lake called the ‘Meare’. The Meare has inspirations from J. M. Barrie’s work of Peter Pan and holds the annual Thorpeness Regatta where boat races are held during the day and a fantastic fireworks display can be enjoyed during the evening.
Thorpeness is also home to the House in the Clouds. An old water tower that was considered an eye-sore has been developed into a fantastic 5-storey holiday home. You won’t miss it whilst you are visiting the village.
