We had a great stay in Custer! The location was in town, and we enjoyed being able to walk downtown. The house has neighbors on two sides. The host was very responsive when things came up. We were also able to book this at the last minute, and so appreciated the host's flexibility with us. The house has recently had DIY updates. The third bedroom and second full bath are in the basement, along with the kitchenette. This would be really nice for a group looking for privacy for additional adults or older children, but might not be as ideal for a family planning to use the third bedroom for younger children. There is a half bath off the main bedroom that was very convenient.
Linens were clean, comfortable beds and AC worked GREAT. So nice to come back to a cool place after exploring the area in the summer heat. Kitchen was not equipped with enough cookware to make a full meal for the capacity but if you plan to dine at the local eateries you won't even notice that. We would have liked some more indoor seating but there is plenty seating on the deck to make up for it.
The house was a good base camp for our Black Hills adventures. Everything worked and was clean and comfortable. Easy 4 block walk to downtown.
The cabin is in a nice location, a quaint town and a short walk from the main street with most food, drink, grocery, souvenir, etc needs. The home is clearly a DIY special, which isn't a bad thing, but is very noticeable if you have an eye for it. Amenities are decent. Would guess it's run by a management company, as most responses from the host felt automated and/or scripted - they completed failed to acknowledge a question I asked then responded with a generic "Welcome to Custer...!" response. Not a bad place to stay for the value.
We were four adults and three children. Plenty of room in this place. The downstairs portion allows a separate and private place within the house. That was a big plus. The front porch really makes the house. We spent much of our time relaxing there. Great location to many things. Mount rushmore, Custer State park, horseback riding, caves, all within 20 to 30 minute drive.
Very quiet residential area, trees border one side, and easy access to HWY 16/385
We recommend a vehicle for travel to the local attractions and National Parks and Monuments. Walking distance to downtown nightlife, shops, grocery, and restaurants.
